That is just ****ty management man. I’m kind of frustrated for you. (Acknowledging all I have are these few Clift notes).
As a manager I am deliberate about ensuring there is an objective, quantifiable (when able) standard. Then do regular follow ups, to compare current performance, to that earlier expressed standard, identify any issues if the performance is failing short, prior to any type of “can I talk to you”.
That is just lazy, ****ty way to manage people.
At the same time, as an employee, I ensure my employer details specific expectations to me. “What am I doing, or what am I not doing, that is preventing me from excelling in this company”. And make him answer.
With this type of assertive communication there is zero room for vague and most likely inaccurate “not meeting my standard”.
A person could come to that conclusion just based on personal biases and even an intimidation of your personality or something completely not related to performance at all.
He is a ****ty boss. It seems you have to pay for that. I feel like this is common in the world and I want to stop it.

Fuk him up outside work OP, he is probably rattling your missus.
Na on a srs level, most likely, a bad manager can ruin a great job.

I’m not familiar with you guys, but down here, we would much rather be fired than quit. When we are fired, there are state benefits we can take advantage of. I feel like in general, you guys are more socialized, so you should have similar programs you could take advantage of. I’m super ignorant about them, but in my mind, it makes sense they would be there for you.
