Are There Advantages in Marrying if You Are Not Planning to Have Kids?

I have a cousin as well as a friend who do not have plans to have kids yet they got married. Are there advantages really?

It makes things like insurance, beneficiaries, care giving, etc easier if you're a spouse vs. a common-law partner. There's a reluctance by companies to hand over your assets to a common-law partner.
