When is a person too old to rap?

I've heard rappers say they'd stop rapping at 30 if they didn't make it. I'm 27 now and haven't made it yet

It depends what audience you're going for. Generally speaking, "pop" music is by and for the youth. I'm talking YOUTH youth i.e. high school age to college at the oldest. Girls between the ages of 14-22 are the biggest consumers of popular music. Pop music obviously includes rap. Look at all the SoundCloud rappers...no older than 25 typically. That being said, you could make it if you're not chasing that "pop" image in your late 20s or even 30s. If you don't at least have the ball rolling in some form by then though, you might as well think of a backup plan.

TY brah, yeah I aim to mature with my music, I don't want to be rapping about juvenile subjects when I'm in my 30s. I have a small fan base but it seems so hard to grow outside of that circle. Im working on a back up plan but I will be disappointed if I can't atleast make a living with music, even if I could do songwriting or producing I'd be happy. But ty for the response.

I never figured there was an age limit to making music.

I would listen to Big L even if he lived to 90 as long as his talent was still the same for example

Kool G Rap is 52 and still dropping new music better than 90% of rappers.

you cant be rapping deep **** like Gang Starr and expect to get a wide fan base today.

youre gonna have to either dumb it down (panda panda panda) or get ultra hipster with it (clipping)

Kool G didn't make it at 52 though...

If you're already established as a rapper, you can go on to whenever... but it's gonna be tough breaking out the older you get. 2chainz managed it so there's hope though bruh

Fair enough. The ceiling is rising though. 2 Chainz is a good example. Look at Griselda too. Westside Gunn and Conway are 37 and 38, only broke through about 2 years ago.
