Why do insurance companies not want you to have a trampoline ?

Everytime i get a home insurance quote these *******s are asking me if i have a trampoline in my backyard . Why are these *******s asking me this dumb question ? I plan to have one in the near future for my kiddo though

I did insurance underwriting for a year. You can have a trampoline but then you gotta get rid of that Liability coverage.

Some of the most gruesome injuries I've ever seen were trampoline related, including a girl who literally snapped her foot off. It was just dangling there by a little bit of meat. I won't post the photo.

yeah my friend had one, we used to both go on it at the same time and you get insane height when youre both going in rhythm. never had an issue either but if you would have missed the pad somehow and fell to the ground it would be game over

So if I get a trampoline without telling them and then a claim gets made because of the trampoline? Are they going to try and deny the claim?

Probably not

They will just tell you that you have to get rid of it when you are looking for renewal or they will drop you.


Basically wait until you actually have the insurance and the photos taken of your property by the agent have been done, then get one and deal with the issue later.

Because trampolines tilt the "loot your pocket" scale slightly out of their favor...

Insurance companies are one of the biggest hustles on the planet - especially home owners. I've owned the same home for 20 years with the same home owners insurance company. I've called in claims three times in 20 years and they've never paid a dime. There is ALWAYS some "outside force" that allows them to skirt paying...and EVERY year my premium goes up.

The purpose of insurance is to deflect liability. Insurance companies gladly receive payment in return of accepting liability. However, when a certain financial risk is reached, the money you pay them to assume responsibility is no longer worth it. Really simple math.

People think they are screwing their insurance companies by lying to them, so they are “covered”.

Insurance companies do their job and ensure they are only assuming liability for what is specifically agreed upon and documented.

You lie to your insurance company, only person you put at risk is yourself. Your insurance company doesn’t give a **** if you get sued by someone for something they are not liable for. They find out you lied to them, they may even be justified in not paying for something that isn’t even related to the lie.


It is all about the transfer of liability man. Some things, the risk is worth it, others simply are not worth it. Basic math.
