Just got into a fight with my son in law at the beach

So my son in law is a deadbeat dad/loser and we have almost gotten into it a few previous occasions. The last week or so he has been absent more and being generally lazy/not providing for the family.

We (my daughter and son in law, grandkids, other family) were all hanging out at the beach having a conversation about the child trafficking Situation and I started explaining how their are so many deadbeat parents (like my son in law), that don't watch their kids and don't really parent them at all (leave them in daycare all day etc)

He counters me and says if I'm in the middle of a video game or binging netflix and my 2 year old gets snatched in the front yard it’s not a parental issue, he starts talking down to me like I’m an idiot so I start getting a little heated. My daughter tells him he has no room to talk about parenting since he basically never takes care of the kids, never takes care of the house, and barely brings in income.

He gets pissed and calls her a bitch, I stand up and tell him he better not say that to my daughter again, he chest bumps me and says this is the last mistake I’ll ever make. (Hes 5’9 170 and I’m 6’2 235) he always brags about how he was a state champion wrestler in HS in Iowa (he’s also 29 and I’m 55)

He attempts to double leg me (I wrestled 3 years in Hs and did BJJ and must this for 5 years) I sprawl and get him in a guillotine and tell
Him he’s not the only one who wrestled and that he’s going to go to sleep. My wife runs over and attempt to pull me off but end up pushing us over.

I’m on my back at this point and he attempts to post up, I get him in a triangle choke at this point and continue to tell him to relax or he is going to sleep. Wife and daughter are freaking out, he’s turning bright red and bleeding from the mouth, a wily next to us comes over screaming they have kids.

Finally his Dad runs over from the water and tells him to chill, at this point he is barely conscious and starting to fade. I let go and he goes partially limp.

His Dad starts asking wtf is going on, and begins to rage that we are *******s and he storms off the beach.

Honestly not sure how to feel atm, he has a history of violent outbursts and he is the kind of guy that I think would
Bring a gun around because he got embarrassed, but at the same time I felt like I handled it as well as I could because I didn’t want to punch his face in in front of my grandkids and at the beach.

He is a great father to my grandkids and loves them a lot but he is also a drunk ******* and has moments like this every 6 months or so, this is just the first time it’s gotten physical.

Cliffs of cliffs:

Son in law is a loser dad and I choked him out at the beach in front of family

Anyways sorry for the long post any advice on how to handle things going forward misc

Aware
-Some people say good things come to those who wait, truth is, good things come to those who work..... who work later.....who work harder...... who are willing to go further than anyone else to get them. If you're waiting for good things to come to you, you'll be waiting for a pretty long time.

-I'd rather live life saying "I failed" than "I could have"
