Would you ever ask a real friend for money?
Suppose you've known the guy for 20 years. You want a van but you're short around 5k and you say you're good for it and you'll pay him back later.
Would that make you a **** friend or does that even matter?
Not asking this myself, but I've had it happen to me. Now wondering if that guy really was a real friend, if he would have the nerve to ask such a thing.

I would not burden anyone when it comes to finances. It is unfair. Many people ask for money and feel betrayed when they are given a resounding no.
If you are short, you need to find a way to bridge the gap.

There are about a gazillion financing companies out there for that purpose, why the fuk would I bother a friend with that noise like some degenerate white trash
Have had childhood friends ask me it before, its always due to them being degenerates who makes bad decisions somehow. Be aware of their type and keep your distance. There is no reason for a normal adult male to lend that kind of money

5K is a lot of money to ask for. The average American doesn't have 5K, and I feel like asking for that kind of money really is a huge ask.

Nope. I'd get a bank loan. If I don't have credit to get a 5k loan at 37 years old, that's my fault

I’ve given my friends money in the past but I always gave it with the idea that I would not get it back, despite them saying they would pay me back. They all did eventually pay it back though..

Nah, never ask parents or friends for money. I'd feel like a complete failure if it ever came to that but it won't thankfully.

it would have to be a very last resort

Nah, I'd get a loan from the bank before I asked a friend for money.
That's never happened to me btw. Although I've lent friends money in the past.

Thus let me live, unseen, unknown;
Thus unlamented let me die;
Steal from the world, and not a stone
Tell where I lie.
