TRADER JOES refuses to bend the knee

Their initial response to this whole "controversy" was to say they were getting rid of the racial product names. Now it seems like they're doing a 180 and realized that the vast majority of their customers aren't in any way offended.

For the non US brahs/people in flyover states: Trader Joe's is a grocery store that sells all private label products. Most of the stuff is labeled as Trader Joes, but some of the ethnic food offerings have other names - Italian foods are sold by "Trader Giotto", Asian foods are Trader Mings and so on.

This was always one of the biggest head scratchers. Surely the Bernie supporters who shop at Trader Joe's would have addressed this in the past if it truly were an issue.

You'll see this with a lot of companies who made public statements "to be more supportive of race" under the threat of public pressure. A lot of those promised changes will not actually end up happening, and were just PR to get past the storm.

In reality, black people are only 11% of the US population, so with the exception of a few heavily black brands like the NBA and Nike, most corporations aren't relying on them to survive.

Because people aren't offended, but when one person says they are, the Twitterati are never going to tell someone "actually that's not offensive, you're just being dumb". That would be intolerant.

TJs is a leftists paradise already - they're a great place to work, pay their people well, and have great benefits even for part time employees.

Trader Joes is about the only place I can get halloumi cheese so it gets a pass.

I did get bertstared out of a TJs once for asking where their pork products were tho.

Oh so if we're selling different ethnic foods we can't use common names from that culture? Should we just use standard white people names like Trader Scott, Trader Steve, Trader Tim? Or should we not assume names and use more sensitive terms like Trader Italian, Trader Chinese, etc.
