It wasn't all white picket fences and happy nuclear families, although of course there's nothing wrong with that. There was the existential threat of nuclear annihilation for example, back when the Soviet armed forces were a peer to the US. Life sucked for many non-whites and gays. Men could pretty much knock their wives around and rape them with zero consequences.

I would have loved to have been born in the 70s.

Okay, but here it is 2020 and blacks are still claiming they are so oppressed. I'm starting to have doubts that they were ever actually oppressed in the past century. First of all, the discrimination wasn't everywhere. Most people on a personal level weren't really racist. In fact, statitically speaking, black family structure was better then.

I'd rather be alive today with all of the problems we have instead of the 50s, I'm not liberal.

Cars last 200k miles or longer without major repair.
Internet and the ability to ship products anywhere mean you can live almost anywhere
A/C in almost every building
Medicine is much more advanced, even though it's more expensive-this is the most important IMO barring a serious accident or cancer a healthy adult has the potential to live to 90 or 100 y/o
