Why's pork so cheap?

I've noticed this for a long time. I used to buy center cut loin chops for $.99-$1.49 a pound, they are cut pretty terribly tho. I've recently found a crock pot carnitas recipe and have switched over to these pork shoulder steak pieces that are $.99-$1.29 a pound. I can have prepped meals with beans and veggies for less than $2 a serving. Pretty damn good. Can't get beef for anywhere near these prices, the cheapest roast I've seen is $4 a pound.

Lower demand, plus one pig gives lots of pork.

Because they feed it garbage. Cheap to produce.

In return, you're eating garbage.

Pork being cheap is good news, though. I remember when they stupidly shut down those meat processing plants because of a bunch of asymptomatic COVID cases. Pork temporarily went through the roof. Hopefully, this means that our food supply is bouncing back.

They actually don't, but that used to be a big problem and the reason trichinosis was a thing. They probably feed them crap like leftover pastries and junk still. Protons are protons tho, I take what I can get.

Why is pork the cheapest meat in the grocery store? Supply and demand. Pound for pound, hogs are cheaper to raise than cows, so they can be sold for less.

Every meat seems to have some sort of issue, which is kinda why I want to start aquaponics one day. Beef and the carnitine/heart disease link that came out a few years ago. Fish is the worst IMO with pollution and plastics, also the problems with fish farms where tilapia are fed actual chit. I mean even being picky about what type of fish you get is tough because of so much mislabeling.

srs Was a big scandal here in Europe couple years back. LOL if you don't think they're now (still) doing it in the USA.

Horse meat isn't bad(actually pretty good), but it was wrongly advertised and the horse weren't regulated so had toxic substances/drugs in them.

"The 2013 horse meat scandal was a food industry scandal in parts of Europe in which foods advertised as containing beef were found to contain undeclared or improperly declared horse meat – as much as 100% of the meat content in some cases." - wikipedia (It has an actual source in the wikipedia article ****s)

Just lol

You'd never be able to swap horse meat for pork. Horse is red meat and way too stringy

Like what other posters stated, they eat garbage and they are high in unhealthy fats. You’ll be eating more fat than protein and end up closer to clogged arteries

What? Because of the brand name and nothing else.

It's already been covered but

Pigs need less space than a cow - unfortunately this means some people have the mother's in tiny areas sleeping in their own chit
Pigs will eat anything
They have big litters
They reach maturity far quicker
