My tradie father doesn’t respect me as a man (srs)

Basically my father is a tradie who has busted his ass working 60-80 hour weeks his entire life. I have a ton of respect for the man, he raised me as a single parent when my mom left. But now that I’m on my own he constantly shows his disappointment. Constantly saying things like I’m not a real man or I’m not a real Italian. Chit hurts brahs.

I’ve worked white collar jobs most of my adult life. I currently sit in an office all day making as much as he does at his union job. He never taught me things like how to do car repairs or grill, so maybe it stems from that.

My pops is a struggling alcoholic. He literally drinks himself to sleep every single night. He called me a pussy because I wouldn’t take a shot with him the last time I visited (I don’t drink alcohol period because my dad and grandfather are alcoholics). He’s in severe debt and his house is falling apart due to a bad roof and rat infestation. I try to teach him the little I’ve learned about financial planning but he says he’s not going to take advice from a pencil pusher.

He’s ashamed of me.

Wat do?

Your father is set in his ways. Do you hunt or fish? Shoot guns? Box? Anything somewhat manly? Do you have your own house? If so do you do the landscaping? Grow vegetables? House repairs? You’ll never be your dad when it comes to the hands on department. I’d let him know how much you appreciate how he busted his ass for the family and although you work totally diff type jobs there is a lot you’d still love to learn from him that way you are better set for the future. Get into manly hobbies with him, have him teach you home owner skills and see how he handles it.

He most likely thinks you think you are better then him even if it’s not the case.

He should be proud of his son regardless and that’s on him honestly. But if you would like to continue building a bond or get more respect from him you can do the things I listed above

Depends what you’re aiming for brah

He shames you For not knowing any of these things but I bet he doesn’t know how to connect to WiFi or use an Internet forum (srs). Much different times now. Plus it seems like his life is a total wreck and he’s taking it out on you lol

What I would do personally is separate myself from him if he isn’t going to accept me for how I am. Be grateful that he provided you for what he did but realize he is never going to change his ways so you can either live with him and put up with it or distance yourself. Though it isn’t a necessarily bad idea to try and get through to him/become closer. You can do this by showing interest in “manly” stuff

Ain't you the same guy who negged me and called me wop ?

I bet your father is Italian. That's why you used racial slurs when negging me.

def taking out his decline on you. DO NOT feed this because he will only do it more.

Who else is in his network? Social leverage is usually the only thing to stop people bullying you like this.

Tough bro. Alcohol is so damn toxic to people who can’t drink in moderation. Try to realize it’s mostly about his insecurities and not you as his son. Not saying let him run all over you though. Is there anyway to talk to him while he’s sober? How does he act towards you when sober?

Yes, the alcohol addiction will just make this worse. No answer for someone committed to drinking away their problems. Don't talk when he's intoxicated.

He's jealous? So sad though, man. No way you're gonna change his perspective except to maybe show him how you live and how you're happy with your own way because you've seen both worlds

Have you tried not being such a fukking pu$sy and manning up for a change? Your alpha AF dad is disappointed in himself as much as he is in you for having raised such a whiny beta bitch.
