Mirin so hard man.. My top 3 prog metal bands have always been Btbam, The Human Abstract and Protest the Hero.. Their older albums still hold up to modern prog, their skills were insane.. Still remember being like 16 trying to play this chit on my guitar..

Not into prog and never heard of them but will check out. Is this like Dream Theater? I know DT is prog and I've heard some of their songs and while they're great musicians it's not really my thing. In for new metal experiences though. I'm currently into Japanese rock/metal scene and I never thought that would be a thing either.

They're a bit heavier and more chaotic than DT.. I hate DT vocals though, ruins their music for me

Btbam is a mix of harsh and clean vocals.. This song (which is probably their most popular song) is a great example of it.. Skip to 3:50 if you dislike harsh vocals

That Human Abstract song is really good. I like it more than BTBAM tbh. Listening to the rest of that album now.

Here is some progressive melodic death

That's cool, kind of like power metal but with harsh vocals.. The only thing I dislike about this kind of music is how prominent the synth/keyboards are.. I like it when the guitar is doing the talking and the other instruments are following..

Listen to these as well, think you'll enjoy them

Know that feel man, I live in a poverty country in Europe and while we have good summer festivals for mainstream bands, we never get good metal bands..

Skyfire is my favorite melodeath band of all time. All their albums still hold up but Mind Revolution will always be my favorite.

Man Mind Revolution and Spectral are so good, it's like the pinnacle of melodic death. Spectral is literally one of the best albums of all time.

This song is insane too

Ya, Digital Veil is also a great album.. Vocals are definitely better and it's way more classical influenced.. Aj Minette was a monster of a guitarist.. Wonder where that dude is in life now

That's some good chit.. My knowledge of melodic death metal is limited but i was obsessed with old In Flames and Kalmah when I was a teen

Definitely man, I listen to a lot of prog and symphonic bands and although there might be newer bands with better production. Skyfire in my opinion is still one of the best to incorporate keys into their music.

*Use half the roll to wipe after a poo crew*
*Fart in the gym and blame rotten smell on faulty ventilation crew*
*Fart at home and blame it on the dog crew*
*Watch neutron-star density poop mock me as water flushes around it and it stays put crew*
*Drive 2 minutes in the summer and back of shirt gets completely wet crew*
*Coffee black as midnight on a moonless night crew*

Thanks for the rec. I'm going to have to listen to that a few times. Vocals notwithstanding, the second half was pretty awesome. Felt a bit disjointed though, almost like it was two different bands. I like long songs but I guess I'm not used to this prog style stuff. I'm an oldcel metalhead who still loves thrash and boomer chit but I'm going to listen to more of that.

Alaska and Colors are GOAT, never seen them live.

Was gonna see them on the 2020 tour (Tampa date was a RIDICULOUSLY small venue). Maybe 2021...

Harsh vocals is definitely the last part of metal that I came around to, but there's a ton of absolutely incredible music out there man.
