Serious, what happened to all the other viruses in the past?

Spanish flu, 57 flu, 68 flu, mers,...

I think they eventually just eradicated it or the virus(s) mutated into something more infectious but much more less lethal and then pretty much faded away.

I see, I know the spanish flu was extremely lethal especially for young healthy men. But there was never a vaccin for it so where is it now?

I think most of them mutate in something weaker.

They get carried by the air currents and hang around in the upper stratosphere or get ejected into space. Once some form of herd immunity is established (usually through lockdown protocol they didn’t practice back then) the amount of hosts is minimized and it simply doesn’t have a means to replicate further before the environmental virus particles floating around get carried off

There are more viruses on earth than stars in the universe, so it’s really no surprise common flu/cold viruses have adapted to be the most abundant to infect the maximum amount of hosts seasonally

Are the death stats of the Spanish flu basically high because it was ****ing 100 years ago and there was **** medical care? I mean people basically died of STD's back then or a cut finger.

Ayyy, something I actually know a fukton about. The Spanish Flu of 1918 did not stop spreading. It became one of the seasonal flu variants that circulated in the population. The real question is why did the subsequent seasons result in much fewer deaths? There was probably a rapid mutation to a less deadly strain after the second wave. It is a recognized tendency for pathogenic viruses to become less lethal over time as the deadlier strains die out, though pathogenic viruses can always mutate into a deadlier strains. In 1952-1953 there was an influenza epidemic of the H1N1 variant that had a peculiar mortality curve, affecting the young more then the old, because the older people had some immunity due to having been exposed to the earlier 1918 variant.

The normal mortality curve for flu outbreaks is usually causing higher deaths in the very young and very old. The Spanish Flu however had an unusual mortality curve where it affected young adults more then elderly. One theory is that the Spanish Flu caused cytokine storms which caused the higher death rates of young adults.

The Spanish Flu never stopped spreading and the human and swine population never achieved a herd immunity. The strain probably evolved to be less deadly and humans have learned to live with the seasonal flu (in all its different subtypes, not just the 1918 H1N1 subtype) in a way that it "only" kills 290,000 to 650,000 people per year globally through treatment (better nursing and treatment to manage effects like bacterial infection/pneumonia, cytokine storms and also through development of medicines like antivirals) and prevention.

Viruses just have a tendency to reach equilibrium with their human hosts. COV-19 is a particular kind of virus which mutates rapidly and last time I checked there are 4000 variants, with a growing trend to the predomination of more milder forms.

This, coupled with herd immunity, will have a combinatorial effect where the virus settles down to something fairly benign but with yearly fluctuations, just like the flu. Something we can easily adapt to and live with.

This is why I advocate for forgetting about lockdown because asymptomatic spreading is a good thing; it makes the virus milder much more quickly and lockdown prevents this beneficial tendency.

once 2/3 of the population has had it, it becomes much more difficult to spread due to majority of people being immune. then it kinda dwindles out and either mutates or dies off

No but I have a Ph.D in research and love studying the history of diseases. I mostly work in cancer and genetics.
