Let me update you on my golf. Again (vid)



Still very limited competitions/handicap qualifiers to play in, shooting around par but can’t take it very seriously with the new covid rules (particularly placing the ball in bunkers because we can’t rake them..makes a nonsense of them as a hazard)

Anyways I enjoy the practise as much as playing, swing edging closer to what I’m trying to do, video is your friend when it comes to improvement..

How do I prevent the ball curving to the left when I drive?

Where does the ball start? If it starts to the left you are likely swinging a little over the top, most common amateur fault



Don’t break the pane of glass!

If it starts straight or to the right your swing is ‘probably’ on or under the glass, which is good. Grip is ‘probably’ strong (too far to the right)

Mirin the single digit handicap OP.

Im currently a 12 handicap - without seeing me play or checking my swing, how would you suggest i drop to singles?

Imo your swing doesn’t have to be perfect to get to a 6 handicap or so. That’s more a matter of avoiding flat out terrible shots and mental errors. Avoiding double bogeys and worse is crucial, and these usually come from getting into trouble and then compounding the error with a stupid shot choice.

To get better than 6, you almost certainly will have to grind it on the range, constantly adjusting, filming, taking advice, experimenting, treating it as a part time job if you like. It’s about enjoying the journey as much as the destination, I’m just as happy practising as playing

Thanks OP.

Worst parts of my game in no particular order:

1) putting - tend to give up strokes on the greens
2) long irons - lose a lot of my consistency at distance by being too far left and right and putting myself in all kinds of trouble
3) driving distance - my carry limits the shots i can use on approach


If i should focus on one to practice, which would you recommend?

Putting is the easiest thing to practise and get good at. It’s the simplest stroke and you can practise it at home, in the office, whenever. There’s really no reason to not be at least decent at putting if you make the effort.

Handicap wise though, according to some strokes gained stats comparing amateurs to pros, it’s getting better at the full swing that will make the biggest difference. Basically every full shot from wedge to driver.

Think of it in terms of greens in regulation. Off 12, if you take 36 putts you need to hit 6 greens in regulation. If you’re averaging more than 6, your putting must be pretty bad.

*amateurs are usually told to focus on the short game to improve. I believed that for years, but it isn’t born out by statistics.

Just moved back to S. Fl which means I’ll play more golf. I suck usually but the trips to Top Golf in NC improved my swing srs

In Charlotte? Stopped by there on hol last year lol

TopTracer is even better and far more useful. A lot of ranges around me have got them this year

Raleigh. Played in Charlotte though with my wife’s cousins husband and it was a great course. Can’t remember the name.

Never heard of TopTracer. Top Golf, Drive Shack is all that we have used. They’re everywhere here. I’ll shoot at the DS here in West Palm.

Ove here, topgolf is the target golf game, good fun when you haven’t got time for a round.. toptracer is what you see on the television, tracks the exact flight with a graphic



Very useful for gapping your clubs and optimising your driver, for example
