How do atoms know what form to take? (SRS)
If every object in the known universe is made of the same particles (atoms), can someone please explain to me how one group of atoms would form into a giraffe, and the other group of atoms form into a tree?
It can't be DNA since DNA is also made up of atoms (like everything else, apparently).

Common organic chemical reactions. Carbon atoms are the building block for life, and have hundreds of different orientations (through bonding to each other with varying degrees of affinity) that are found in nature and living organisms. But water is the second linchpin in that oxygen and hydrogen atoms commonly bind to carbon atoms (ie why the body is over 70% water) in organic matter.
That’s the base of it. There’s only a finite amount of elements existing on earth otherwise which lend to more exotic or exogenous chemical reactions that may or may not be vital to the formation of living organisms

Think of it like how you can build many different structures out of legos. It is the unique electromagnetic and gravitational (and to a lesser extent nuclear and weak) properties of each combination of the atoms that make up an object that give it most of its macroscopic characteristics. Atoms are really small, so you have to zoom out to see what it is they formed. The same atoms can form different things.
Think of a grain of sand, it could form many things. If you are really zoomed in under a microscope all you see is grains of sand, if you zoom out you could see if it could be a piece of concrete in the Woolworth Building in New York, it could be one of the Pyramids of Giza, or it could be a HBB's breast tissue.
