Is this legal?

So covid impacted rent a lot in my city so everything is on a discount. I was thinking of renting a property, say for $1200 a month, and when covid goes away and rent picks back up could I rent that place out, that I rented, for say, $1400?

Only problem would be keeping it under the radar from landlord but is this even legal?

Seems like easy money to me.

its called subleasing and it depends on the building

if they find out theyd probably just evict you.

That's a sub-lease and usually not allowed under the terms you sign for the lease.

will be pretty apparent anywhere that isn't a home. and if it is a home, I'd imagine they prob have a Ring doorbell or something that would catch your sub-letter coming and leaving all the time.

Not legal and the tenants could wait a year, sue you for the illegal rent you collected and get their money back.

Honestly not too sure on how that'd work. I'm sure they're supposed to transfer it over to the current lessees, but at the same time I'm also sure they would also be able to use it/have a backdoor and find out if they ever bothered to check it.

Would also introduce a whole host of run around issues to get anything rectified for the sub-lettee.

Plus in any residential SFR home, or even complexes and such. I'm sure the landlord will be friends with their neighbors at some level and find out through them
