Our world right now is better than ever. Culturally though we have a greater rot and infestation because of media, social media, and propaganda in schools. It is just more widespread and apparent now.
They used to drill kids in school in the 80s having them cover their heads under their desks for potential nuclear bombings. That's called trauma. Making kids thinking any day they will get vaporized in school.
