Do you correct people when you see them doing an exercise with bad form.

Good morning. I’ve noticed during my beginner stages of working out years ago doing bad form I’ve never had anyone come up to me to correct me on my form. When you all go to the gym and happen to see someone doing an exercise with bad form do you help ‘em out or do you keep it moving.

not unless asked. people will only hate you for unsolicited advice.

When i was beginning, every time i did lateral raises, some ******* would ''correct'' my form.
And they all had it wrong imo, cuz i do them old school with the hands above my head, instead of just elbows parallel to the floor.
That chit didn't stop until shoulders became my best feature. Instead people just always complimented my delts and didn't say chit anymore.

No, unless they're obviously close to injuring themselves. That said...

There was this ass hole at a muni gym i used to go to. Dude acted like the biggest man in the world. His squat form was horrendously bad. His knees would almost touch and his back would round as he did quarter squats with his Oly lifting shoes supporting him. I'd have to turn away and stifle my laughter at the sight of all this.

I never have. I likely never will unless someone looks like they're going to put themselves or someone else in the hospital. If they choose to do 1/4 squats that's on them. In todays world I find it better to just mind my own business.

Have hated everyone who has done it to me and therefore don't do it to other people unless asked

Only if they are so new they are trying to figure out how a machine works or somthing.

If they think they know what they are doing then no unsolicited advice is welcome, it would embarrass or be an insult to most people.

Like every poster in here has said and if you have spent more than a week in a gym, you know nobody cares what you think about their form, so keep it to yourself.
“The Misc. is a stone-faced Uncle Sam with Popeye’s forearms and a cocked pistol in each hand. It’s a screeching bald eagle with a foreign Bad Thing in its talons. It’s everything that defines America’s bro culture, magnified and weaponized. But it’s deeper than that.“

No, you just stand their and cringe to yourself.

When you train for years and get jacked/shredded then people start approaching you for advice (had this happen a few times) lol.

But now I lost all my gains coz no gym for 6 mnths. feels badman.

Yes, but I also go to a gym where most of the members have the same goals and support each other.

If you can't resist, then maybe become friends with people at the gym first. I have done it, though.

Only if they clearly have no idea what they are doing and look like they are new to lifting/the gym and/or are going to hurt themselves.

Last person I helped out was a boy & girl...looked to be about 15-16 that were doing a circuit together that involved the rowing machine and good lord both looked like it was their first day.....they were both just trying to break their lower backs. So I approached the dude first and asked if they were new to working out and chatted for a second, then asked if "he wouldn't mind me showing them a few techniques I had learned on the rowing machine to help with their form so that they wouldn't have to go through some of the paid that I did" He seemed excited to learn and within that session they both cleaned up their form.

Now, every time I see them we say hey and occasionally chat and they've asked a few other questions since then.

Men only can learn from what they see.

Sadly most of the time, men only trust their eyes and not other's mouths.

Seeing is believing

and you got to show them HOW,

and WHAT the reward would be.

phil heath arnold and jesus could walk into a gym and tell everyone the proper way to do aspecific movement and 1 out of 1000 would actually do it

once you learn 90% people go to the gym to feel good about themselves and not to improve it all makes sense

I used to when I thought I was the chit and thought that people would enjoy my corrections. But looking back at it, it comes across as douchey and annoying. Considering no one asked me for my advice.

I remember I hadn't gone to the gym in a few years and got back into it so I was skeleton mode, this guy came up to me trying to show me how to do an exercise without me even asking; "Hey bro, you should do it like this it feels so good and you really hit the blablabla", I felt offended and just walked away from him when I realized what he was trying to do, while he was in mid sentence. I was pissed cause it was confirmation that I had lost all my gains lmao, never experienced that before until I was dyel af, chit feeling. That was also a lesson for me to never do that to someone else, cause it's insulting and makes me look full of my self.

If someone wants advice, they'll ask for it.

Nope. Even when I realize if they keep doing that crap they are going to need surgery.

None of my business. One way or the other, they will learn. Or not.

edit: I try to help. But it always comes across wrong. So I am really hesitant

bad form is only really important for deadlift. the higher in weight u go in other exercises ur body will learn the correct form... in my experience anyways. u don't need 100% perfect form in all exercises, deadlift is the only one that i've found where you need good form otherwise you'll **** your spine

other than that mind your own business and focus on your own ****

With younger guys, I will ask "can I give you a little advice". I have enough gray hairs that the know I have been around a while, and I am in pretty decent shape for a guy almost 50.

I have made a lot of gym buddies over the years that way and helped a bunch of younger guys. I can remember when I was younger the way I looked up to some of the older dudes. I just keep it very constructive. I always ask them about their 'goals' since advice is not one size fits all.

Only when I’ve seen groups of kids trying to figure something out (like squats). So like twice ever. But no, I don’t ever offer unsolicited advice.

Douche bags have come up to my wife MANY times to offer terrible advice. Not even hitting on her in some cases. Just morons who didn’t know sh!t about exercise/lifting.

One time she was doing HIIT on a treadmill, and some skinny twink who was there with his girlfriend strolled over to her and said she shouldn’t move her arms when running because it uses too much energy. Typing this out made me realize he had to be retarded and met his GF on one of those retard dating shows.

I did this a couple of weeks ago tbh......

There are 2 girls training at the gym, and they look so much alike. One of them were doing a behind the neck lat pull down (where the back is facing the station) and it looked really bad for her.

So I asked the other one if she is her sister or something. She said indeed, and that they are twins. I said cool, I had my sucepsoion. However, you should check your sisters exercise, it might be bad for her in the long term. She said oh, sure, and went to tell her.

Idk, might be because I am a PT that I felt the need to tell
