Have you ever had to deal with someone who threatens suicide for grief/attention?

My mom has been an abusive alcoholic for a long time, I think she's bipolar and gets in these depressed drunken episodes where she gets all melodramatic and acts like she is going to kill herself just to get me upset or to get attention or some chit. Obviously she is a sick person but she has been doing that tonight so it's had me a bit worried, but then again she seems to do this kinda thing quite often and tries to act like nothing happened if I talk to her the next day or something. It's a pretty phucked situation.

Yep, met a girl who would do that randomly for attention. It's annoying and a drain. They only do it for a payout, if they stop getting a reaction for it, they'll stop doing it all together.

Well sadly she's my mom so it's kinda hard to completely eliminate her from my life, but I am trying to distance myself as much as possible these days. She's a phucked up person that's for sure, and I have been sick of her chit for way too long. She's been an abusive alcoholic most of my life.

Yeah I can tell how she does it so I will be texting her so she gets the attention she craves. She's a very selfish person so she isn't the type who would actually kill herself, she just gets all melodramatic and acts like she's this helpless/hopeless person when she's all depressed and feeling sorry for herself.

Some people it's just attention seeking. Even a lot of suicide attempts are just attention getting. However, sometimes they are being serious. Sometimes you can tell.

I think the people who are actually serious about it don't go about it in an attention seeking fashion, they are usually just more closed off or straight up about their depression/issues.
