Should I go above my professor and challenge this?

Cliffs:
-Class has mandatory attendance with two free passes
-OP uses two free passes earlier in semester to go on vacation early and come back late
-OP accidentally oversleeps because alarm didn't go off
-Went to later class and told professor
-Professor said he won't excuse absence, refers to attendance policy, etc.
-OP argues it was an accident and not fair
-Professor says not good enough reason and says OP is acting like a child about it
-OP's day is ruined

I mean come the fuk on, it was an accident!

Why are you blaming the professor when you overslept and missed class? You're an adult, you shouldn't "accidently oversleep". And the policy was given clearly and you used your two free passes instead of saving one for an emergency or accident.

i find it a bit weird if "late" = absence

sounds like that's what it was translated to by your story.

but if it says anywhere that late = absence i'd be on the professors side. otherwise, i don't think being late should be an absence. that's just stupid and idealistic

edit: oh wait, you overslept so you didn't go at all. i guess i lean with the professor. should have known another absence was going to cause a problem. should have touched base with him prior tbh

I think they can count it as absence but I completely missed the class. I went to speak with him at one of his other ones later.

I absolutely fuking hate attendance policy at college. This is bullsht that is actually a GOVT rule. Because so many people are failing to pay back student loans the govt has decided this is due to lack of classroom attendance.

Absolute fking bullsht.

We already get raped by the govt caused inflated cost and now we don't even get to choose our attendance, for a class WE PAID FOR. If anything the school shouldn't get any say whatsoever if we show up or not. Just give us the test and be thankful we are taking loans to pay for this stupid sht.

Fuk the college scam
Fuk greedy college professors who are worthless pieces of sht
Fuk inflated ego professors

I have a doctorate so this isn't some tradie tirade. I will perfectly happy if my kids are tradies.

Fuk the govt and fuk the instructors. Faculty is paid to teach. Professors that require attendance on their own can lick these hairy balls.

There are very few classes that need to be learned in person. Since the basic sciences don't change all that much, one really good professor for each subject could teach every single class in the entire country on their own; and that video could be watched year after year. A few tutors could take care of the questions.

That is fine. Let those who want to attend, attend. Don't force it on people who only want the knowledge. I would not show up to class just to make a classmate feel better and I have no empathy for someone who expects me to change my actions for their feelings.

i think professors are prob more lenient than their syllabus most of the time

BUT i think you need more communication at first. and im sure if it were like you had corona and then you had another emergency which is why you missed more than 2.. it'd be cool

but i dont think vacation and oversleeping make the threshold for valid excuses
