Equity vs. Equality | Which side are you on.

I seea lotpeople confusing equality with equity.
Equality is typically defined as treating everyone the same and giving everyone access to the same opportunities. Meanwhile, equity refers to proportional representation (by race, class, gender, etc.) in those same opportunities.
Which side are you on?

Poll incoming.

Neither, I prefer preferentialism.

Humans are not designed to treat everyone the same or provide equal opportunity. If you're running a business and 20 equally qualified people apply to a position you should pick your friend or the most attractive one or your cousin. It's human nature to prefer people whom we most closely identify with, anything less is arguing against empathy and you're basically promoting sociopathy.

Equity towards an even starting line, a bare minimum. After that, equality.
When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.

Too simplistic to dichotomize. For example, too much inequity will lead to violence even if the opportunities are entirely equal. Also, equity is basically marxism. And equality is an unattainable lie. After all, no human is born with equal opportunities due to genetic differences and resource differences among people. It's all a sham. There is no meritocracy. We should prioritize the stability and prosperity of society, and do whatever maximizes that. If that means helping people who are chit, then do that. If it means letting them die, then do that. We just have to carefully plan society to prevent war and chaos and make it work as efficiently as possible for the most people. You need enough equity to where violence will be discouraged, and you need at least some semblance of equality to keep people motivated to participate. Ideally, everyone should get what they need and have to work for what they want. But in reality, there isn't enough to go around (everyone on Earth can't live like the average American), and even if you give some what they need, they won't make use of it properly. Others will also go for much more than they need and never stop wanting and are even willing to take from those in need. It's a chaotic world, and there is a constant contest of wills. You can't please everyone or make society work for everyone. But there are better and worse decisions that lead to better or worse outcomes collectively.

America is way beyond greedy and in actuality, one way or another, we are going to have to see a decline in our economy over the years. Our carbon emissions per capita are truly lulz.

So what you are saying is that we should drop everything to the lowest possible standard to make sure we dont hurt the feelings of people who cant succeed despite having equal opportunity?

And these people call themselves "progressives" rather than "degenerates".

Not what I am saying at all. I clarified my position in the edit. But to some extent, yes. If enough people can't succeed and are mad about it, that's how things like the cultural revolution or the russian revolution occur. It's in society's interest to try to appease its constituents. Considering how most of our economy really only caters to about 10 men, it makes sense that eventually a huge number of people might decide to just murder those 10 and claim their wealth. That is what happens when inequity becomes really extreme. It's just a fact of life. I'm not saying it is a good or bad thing. I'm saying it is what has happened time and time again in every society. When the peasants are unhappy, they kill the nobles. That's a story as old as humanity itself.
