-Some people say good things come to those who wait, truth is, good things come to those who work..... who work later.....who work harder...... who are willing to go further than anyone else to get them. If you're waiting for good things to come to you, you'll be waiting for a pretty long time.

In everyday life, we feel very similar and share a lot history together. The older generation often speaks (or at least understands) Finnish so they sometimes even watch Finnish news or weather broadcasts.
So I personally don't think there's such a big difference between us.

However, it's a little different regarding the tourism part.
I guess it's mostly that the bad apples tend to stand out the most, but often times the Finns that come here like to get very drunk, act loud and sometimes act as they are superior.
The alcohol tourism is definitely a thing.

Another thing I've heard sometimes, perhaps I am mistaken since I don't have any personal experience, is that Finns don't tend to tip at restaurants and bars. So that kind of adds to the negative vibes for the tourism part.

But other than that, I do feel we are very similar and mostly view us as very much alike.

Oh yeah..I can definitely believe all those things about Finns. They are disgusting pigs, they just go there to buy alcohol and get drunk.

So only older generations speak Finnish? How did they learn and younger generation do not? Does everyone speak English? Do you ever go to Finland? Do you take those boats?

My husband was so excited when we took one of those boats cos he's never been on one before lol...but he was tipping at least as he's American. In Finland, there's no tipping culture so they might not know its expected.

The older generation often speaks Finnish because in the Soviet times, it was a way to see behind the Iron Curtain and what's going on in the world - Finnish TV.

The younger generation often speaks English, some better than others, but many will be able to converse.
Russians tend to speak less English, often times not at all, but that's also been improving in the last 10 years. Their younger generation is more willing to learn other languages besides Russian.

Sure I've gone to Finland sometimes. Not too often, but I've taken the ferry many times, sure.
Some cheaper labor goes to work in Finland so they take the ferry multiple times a week.

Never tip. When you tip you are reinforcing a broken capitalist system. We in Sweden want everyone to earn a living wage, by tipping you are making the restaurants aware that they can pay their employees less. This is already an epidemic in large American cities where popular restaurants and bars simply do not pay their wait staff at all; the restaurateurs know that their free labor will be compensated in tips. Do not import this exploitative system (exploitative both to the staff and the consumers, who are perpetually guilted into paying %20 premium over advertised prices) to sweden. We worked hard for our labor rights, tipping culture deteriorates the security of labor. Do not tip in Sweden.
