In terms of function and loyalty, dogs ether cats
Title, dogs and cats both provide companionship.
Dogs : have the ability to protect you, your family and your property, they are like a bodyguard, except he's in the family.
Cats : can get rid of insects / other pests around your house (which could arguably also be done by your dog) which is useful but let's be honest here, it's nothing compared to protection.
inb4 cat defense video, I'm not talking exceptions here, if an intruder comes at your mom, would you rather she has a dog or a cat by her side ?
