This is a huge difference between men and women which some people on both sides just don't understand or want to accept, but it just is. In a society which places all the responsibility to pursue and impress on one side (men), obviously a high success rate indicates desirable traits-such a person is proven to have worth. Women prefer men who are successful with women because it confirms their own judgment about such a man's value and ability to build social status. It's like getting a second opinion from a doctor just to check on the first physician. And a woman's job in this society is to choose, and choose wisely.
On the other hand, men don't like women who sleep with anything because in effect what that woman is saying is that she doesn't understand what value is, in a man. You cannot reach a certain body count (we can argue what exactly that number might be, but it doesn't really matter) and insist that every guy you slept with was an impressive, "worthy" person. Men are highly competitive and they don't want to be "chosen" by a woman who frankly, isn't difficult to get. There's no accomplishment there. Men with high self-esteem don't want to be in the pussy club with some other douche they don't respect.
That's the psychological aspect of it, at least. I would be remiss to not mention a very practical aspect from the male point of view. Until recently, with modern science, there was no way to KNOW that a man's children were actually his biological offspring. Acquiring a low or even better, a no experience woman was the best way of guaranteeing paternity. So there is that, as well.

I think you've got a range of preference on both sides, there are guys who want to be a girl's first whatever (no baby, I've never done it in the butt before) to cucks who want to watch their girl get bonds by other men or go get off on being the last guy to come in a gangbang.
