younger generation speaks english but they're all shy about it, my cousins say they barely do but they're literally perfect at it

can't really speak for tourism cause i just go to be with family but my family's from helsinki, porvoo and kotka. helsinki's cool but not the same as it was 10-20 years ago, porvoo and kotka are just smaller cities not really worth tourism from the states. i'm not a big city guy so i'm not super interested in helsinki. there's decent skiing up north but they're not big mountains, we have friends in kuusamo that we visit, that's a whole nother planet if you're not from the sticks

on the plus side the public transit system is fukin sick, you can get around the country so easily it's kinda ridiculous. we hop off the plane, down some stairs, onto a train a couple blocks from the bus depot and we're in my grandma's apartment in kotka in a matter of hours for legit $10. i don't really know what they're considered but there's a company called onnibus that does like, coach busses for dirt cheap because they don't stop at every stop. was able to take onnibus all the way from kotka to kuusamo for something like 30 euro iirc because they shuttle people up to the ski resorts and stop in kuusamo

Sounds pretty cool man. I am definitely an outdoors type so that’s no problem. I snowboard in Idaho so it’d be pretty sweet to hit the slopes in Finland.

Public transport sounds cheap, how affordable are the hotels/food/etc?

Also I want to see the northern lights and I’ve read about some pretty cool spots in Finland to see them.

Lastly, I imagine the girls there are pretty hot right? Do they like American guys? You said they were shy so would it be tough for a foreigner to get with a girl there?

Lol Finnish girls may be shy but they're easy AF.lol just had to put that out there hehe..

But on a serious note, I would go during summer to Helsinki. It's light because of midnight sun and it's soo nice to just stay up all night. And it's safe to hang out in the city..nobody tryna kill you with guns. It's so nice. Expensive though. Kool cheap city to visit in Europe is Hamburg, I think.

Or if you want to go to Lapland or whatever, I don't really know about that trip, it's far away from Helsinki.

Sorry about your uncle. My grandfather was also in a war. He got injured and later on died from those injuries. Finnish people have had some tough times.

What book was your great uncle in? I have pretty much read all the most famous books about the wars, some more than once.

Helsinki looks like a beautiful city. Definitely want to visit. Can you see the aurora borealis there? I’ll probably plan to stay a week or two in Finland and I’ll try to travel as much as I can.

How expensive is Finland compared to the US? Say I have 3-5k to spend. Would I be comfortable for 2 weeks? I have some family I’ve never met in Helsinki so I might be able to stay with them for a bit.
