That's why I said there's also an administration problem. A teacher with good management and an administration who is firm and attentive will not have a classroom acting like that for more than a few seconds before it's handled.

I'm not a high school teacher or even a general education teacher, so it would be arrogant for me to speculate what I would personally do. But a good teacher doesn't have that sort of thing going on usually because the kids are too busy with activities and actual learning to be running around having a party.

I'm a special education teacher. I work in the classroom with gen ed teachers on occasion, but 90% of my classroom time is spent working with a handful of kids at a time (in my own classroom). So while I can tell you my observations about effective gen ed teachers and administrators based on what I've seen, I can't tell you exactly what I would do in their case because we have different jobs. And your question was very specific, asking what I would personally do. Since I don't have the exact same job as a teacher like that, it would be presumptuous to tell you what I would do. So I told you what I've personally seen that is effective.

It's no different from a doctor giving you insight about a hospital situation regarding nurses, but not telling you exactly what he would do in that situation because he's not a nurse.

Very few schools are actually like that and teachers know exactly which ones to avoid. There is this program called teach across America or some such chit that wrangles unsuspecting midwestern white girls into coming down here to teach with the promise that they will pay off their student loans and offer 1.5x the local salary to teach at disadvantaged schools down here if they can make it 5 years. What disadvantaged really means is that your classroom will look like the one in the OP with completely out of control kids. Almost none of them make it more than a year and I assume most wind up with some form of mild PTSD from the experience. There is a reason the locals won't even apply for those jobs
