Saving Private Ryan is much more brutal than I remember (spoilers)

I last watched it when I was about 16. Watched it again last night and god damn is it brutal.

Whole squad shot up as soon as the front of the boat drops down
Whole squad torched to death instantly
Hanks pulls a wounded soldier to safety, only to look back at him and realise his entire lower half had blown off
Soldier rolls another soldier over to find a gaping hole where his face used to be
Solider runs back to pick up his arm which had blown off

Etc. All this within 10 minutes. Great movie but I still get annoyed at the coward medic who had multiple opportunities to kill a large amount of German soldiers but cries in the corner instead.
The cinematography hasn't aged at all, it looks like it was made this year.

It's a great war movie, probably the best I've seen. Also, the coward was the translator wasn't it? Pretty sure the medic did a pretty good job about trying to save all his fellow soldiers in spite of danger.

My gf had never seen it, we watched the 4K remastered version (or maybe just upscaled) and damn it looked good. She liked it, ofc.

The plot didn't develop very well, started off about finding a brother to save a lineage, ended up being about Tom Hanks.

Having said that it's easily one of the best cinematics ever made, the visuals and acting are unbeatable, no amount of CGI can replace that.



That scene where the grown man is crying out for his mother is one of the most brootal yet realistic things you'll ever see

They had to tone down the violence during the invasion, they had vets from the war detailing what happened, when they storyboarded the action it seemed unbelievable.
