Nope, hitting it pretty hard. Unfortunately I only fairly recently started doing that though.

I never understood all the idiots who spend their entire lives saving money for when they’re 50 years old and can’t even enjoy it. Nobody is going to mire your house or your poverty porsche at that age.
-Some people say good things come to those who wait, truth is, good things come to those who work..... who work later.....who work harder...... who are willing to go further than anyone else to get them. If you're waiting for good things to come to you, you'll be waiting for a pretty long time.

This to some degree, but I also have already accepted and want to work in some capacity the rest of my life. A porsche isnt chit compared to running a business and raising a family and bettering people.

Everyone’s dreams are always running a business. People think the business will run itself and doesn’t require time. I know several people who own small shops, restaurants, and even a large company. Half of them don’t even have time to sleep and are stressed out 24/7.

Maybe its just me, but I have a decent job and when I go home **** all else, I ain’t losing sleep or peace over no business, specially during this clown world that allows and rewards people for destruction

I am wayyyy ahead of my age group when it comes to 401K and I still kick myself for not investing sooner. I really wish I would have thrown an extra thousand or so a few years earlier. Was basically poverty when I first started investing.

I've maxed it out the past 4 years.

I think you should put a little bit away every month, that 150-200 dollars every month over a long period of time adds up a lot.
I do agree that you should enjoy yourself a little if you want. I want to be able to stop working when I am old but at the same time Im not going to live off of ramen noodles and drive a 500 dollar beater just to have money when I am old.

I got a very late start. I never made enough money to put anything away.

I put 5% of my pay into my TSP (my employer matches up to 5%).. def not throwing money at it at this point but I won't waste any opportunity for free 401 matching and some good investments.

If you invested 6k when you were just born, it would turn into over a million dollars at retirement, assuming market growth holds its historical returns. My parents set me up with this when I was a baby.

The key is investing early in life; the dollar amount is less important. The problem is that no one has money and the government only cares about the rich.

This is a smart move. The employee match is free money essentially. So many people don't even match too, it drives me crazy.

Hell no being broke is the worst thing ever. Life comes at you fast and before you know it you'll be 50+ years old with nothing to show for it and a body that isn't doing you any favors for working. You have to find that balance but compound interest works best the earlier you start.

by the time you are 65 the value of the dollar would of dropped off so hard you prob couldnt even buy a used car with it. the BLM government would of probably already taken any savings you had out for reparations anyways

I don't invest in a 401k for retirement, I do it so in the future I can use it as a down payment on a house, or use it to start a business, or if I'm ever in some type of emergency then I can tap into it. Plus my employer matches up to 5% so that's free money.

by the time we get to retirement age, UBI will be in full force & America will have bent over to a socialist form of government. an IRA won't be necessary

Max 401K & HSA crew:

1. If you don't at LEAST invest to your company's match, you're a legit dumbphuck. It's quite literally saying no to free money.

2. I max out because that's free tax money I'm turning down. If I don't put money in my HSA/401K, I'm giving up 25-30% of my marginal pay in taxes. Instead of guaranteeing myself a -30% return on that money, why not invest that ****?

I kind of get OP's point about FIREcels. There comes a point when you can't just keep shoving money into index funds, retire early, but have 0 hobbies or personality because you spent your best years being a shut-in. My philosophy has evolved to maxing out those accounts, for the reasons mentioned earlier, and just have enough emergency funds to cover 4-5 months of unemployment. If I spend it all because I want to take a trip or go out an extra time or two with people, so be it. Whatever's left over is gravy anyway.

I invest in a 401(k) merely because it's free money if done with a match. Old me, if I survive that long, will appreciate it.

Some jobs your match is only 1%, some its all the way to 10%. Mine's at 6%, which won't make or break me anyways.
