Marvel/DC/Vertigo Comics

I used to read comic books when I was younger, but I haven't read any for a long time. I have heard that the state of comics nowadays is pretty dire.

Any titles worth getting from the above companies (yes, I know DC owns Vertigo)? I am in Australia and it is unbelievable how expensive they are currently here, obviously it's all shipping costs.
