I've never traveled outside the U.S. before, what's the best way to do it?

I've never traveled outside the U.S. before, what's the best way to do it? Single with no kids, will be 30. Gotta start traveling soon before it's too late. I'm gonna need a passport of course, so I'll apply for that. I'm thinking Cartagena Colombia for my 1st country.

Colombia isn't what you would call a beginner destination. Try Canada, Mexico, or the Caribbean before venturing to South America.

Why not, especially if I know spanish and learn salsa.

You're right though. Toronto is less than 2 hour flight.

Because Colombia isn't a popular tourist destination. When you go to places that receive lots of tourists you catch a certain vibe because people are used to them being around and you're less of a target. Not to say you wouldn't be in other places, it just makes you stick out more when there isn't a huge tourist presence.
