Retinol is over the counter, is that what you got? Retin A is the one that doctor prescribes.

You can use it at night.

The other over the counter product that is good, is differin.

Wait, is she giving you facial maintenance advice? If so, I’m listening. I live in S. Fl, entering 40’s so I need to maintain. Good genes, but still listening.

If you got Retin A 0.05 you have to start slow, and not use every night. It is going to be very strong. Avoid eye area and side of your mouth. You can use moisturizer before applying it but wait until your skin is totally dry.

So you clean your face with a cleanser and apply regular moisturizer, wait until it dries totally and then apply your Retin A. You don't need a lot.

It's mexico

Prescriptions are over the counter...

OP use at night after you clean yourself

Apply moisturizer after it's dried (20-30mins), will help with the dry skin

Use sunscreen during the day if you're outside for a while

I thought you put Retin A on bare face? My RX is only .25 though and my skin has been fine throughout starting it. Since my skin hasn't freaked out like everyone here says I'm starting every day now.

Ken, make sure you have good sunscreen and use it every day. Especially considering you're in Mexico. Wear hats too to keep the sun off our face.

I realized he was in Mexico after my post.

And yeah sunscreen is a must to wear during the day time if you use Retin A. Otherwise it's better not to even use it because you'll make more damage.

Well dr. Dray says it doesn't do anything to put it before as long as you wait till your skin is dry.

I tried the method of putting moisturizer and Vaseline afterwards as it seems everyone does it that way here, but my face was so itchy and I was just scratching it all night.

I thought Brett Easton Ellis already provided the pinnacle of skin-care routine for Miscers back in like 1991?

Oh really? My skin feels a little dry during the 20 or so minutes I wait after I put the Retin A on before using moisturizer, but not itchy at all.

When I clean my face with a cleanser, even if it's very mild, it makes my skin very dry so I just put a little moisturizer on it. Every video I watch of Dr. Dray she always does it that way.

However, I can see why you want to put the strongest product first and that's how a lot of people seem to be doing it.

I try different ways tbh because there's so many different opinions out there. Everyone seems to have their own order how they apply their products.

Oh and sometimes I was putting the Retin A with no moisturizer before or after. Sometimes I do that too.

Well yeah, true. Plus we all have different skin /tolerances. I can't imagine not putting moisturizer on after the Retin A. My skin would feel way too dry.

True. .05 is too strong to start with. He most likely won't be able to use it every day.

Ken don't get discouraged if it's too strong. You have to start very slowly. It's for the long haul.

No don't put it in your neck. I try it and it kills me. Neck area is very sensitive.
I want to use it on my neck too because that's where it's needed.

I am able to use it under eyes now though but neck only occasionally.

I've been putting under eyes and on my neck with no negative effects. Just starting every day use though, so we'll see if I get any flaking.

They are called nasolabial folds, nice name huh

Yeah you can put it everywhere on your face, except right now since you're starting avoid under eyes and side of your mouth. When you've built up tolerance, you can put it there too.

My neck is very sensitive. I'll be just scratching it like crazy. Sometimes it's okay with the lower dosage but I now have the strongest. I still have some 0.025 left so I could use that for neck I guess.

Strongest you can get from Dr. is 0.1% That's what I have currently.
However...if you order via Curology, you can get it even stronger as they custom make your bottle.

So it goes from 0.025, 0.05, 0.1. Start from the lowest and build tolerance very slowly.
