Bloating Pressure Cooker (canning brahs)

My pressure cooker is bloatmaxxing. The bottom is even rounded off making it rock back and forth.


Is this suggestive of diminished structural integrity? You think it is still safe to use?

Safest course of action for sure. I would just hate to waste money because I’m a puss though. I have only used it about 15 times or so.

My buddy just told me he thinks it is from heating up too quickly on the electric stove. You guys familiar with this? Makes sense to me

I remember your story of your copilot crashing a helicopter into a tension wire and the blade came through the helicopter and killed your copilot and missed decapitating you because you happened to be looking down at something.

After that happening, Death may be angry and looking to take you out with some Final Destination type chit. Don't let a pressure cooker blow up in your kitchen bro.

That is funny. I don’t remember that story lol. That did not happen to me.

Ahhh that wasn't you? Yeah it was another pilot on here doing line work and his copilot flew into a tension wire and wrekt their chit. Dude amazingly survived a blade through the cabin and a crash landing.

Depending how short you are, maybe you'll be lucky enough to be shorter than the counter top/stove it's sitting on and the blast will go upwards

nerd answer:

metals (or really all materials) will return back to their original shape up to a certain stress level, past that stress level they stay permanently bent or deformed, its called the yield point. If you had a metal pipe, you could bend it in your hands and see the bend but let go and it goes back to its original shape, thats because the stress you put in is below the limit. You can bend a paperclip and it says, thats because its so small its very easy to exceed the yield point.

Now it wouldn't necessarily mean its going to explode (ie complete failure) but it obviously has exceeded the stresses it was designed for and you have no way to know what stresses are in there so definitely replace it. It probably hit 90% of the pressure it can withstand, there isnt much room left before it explodes.

Its not really structurally damaged its more that for whatever reason it is hitting higher pressures than they designed for and the pressure it hit that made it permanently stretched out was very high, close enough for it to risk exploding.

I’m about to go to town to lookin into getting an insta pot as recommended above.

Just take it to your local blacksmith so they can forge it back to new.
