Louisville police have declared a state of emergency as the Kentucky city braces for a grand jury decision on the fate of three cops involved in the police shooting death of Breonna Taylor.

Acting Police Chief Robert Schroeder said Monday that days off and vacation requests for all Louisville Metro Police Department personnel are canceled until further notice pending state Attorney General Daniel Cameron’s announcement on whether the cops involved in the March shooting will face criminal charges.

“To ensure we have the appropriate level of staffing to provide for public safety services and our policing functions, effective immediately the LMPD will operate under the emergency staffing and reporting guidelines as outlined in the Standard Operating Procedures, Emergency Response Plan, and collective bargaining agreements until further notice,” Schroeder said in a memo.

If only these people had the intelligence to direct this energy at the real culprit- no knock warrants and the fact that 'controlled substances' are illegal and can result in warrants at all.

Its incredibly disrespectful to citizens of this country to tell us what things we can own or sell. And its incredibly disrespectful that they can enter your home without announcing. We're supposed to be free adults. Hold the local and state legislators responsible. The officers just followed lawful orders and training.

I was under ther impression that they did actually knock and it wasn’t a no knock warrant. However I do agree they shouldn’t be allowed to intruder without announcing themselves and also agree that drugs shouldn’t give them the right to do ****. They shouldn’t have ANY right to control what someone wants to put in their own body except for when it comes to minors. If you go on to break a different law while under the influence that’s a diff story as well.

Depends if the fired officer actually hit Ms Taylor. He fired from outside of the apartment into a side window. In all honest he might have warranted charges regardless. I've only seen lefty sources on it but there needs to be more facts regarding him. There will be no charges for those who confronted the pair after the officer was shot. There was a witness who stated they knocked several times before entering (he was a black man btw).

Just sayin.

It was a no knock but they had the option and decided not to use it. Had they used it then likely no one would have been hurt. But hey ban them anyway.

Kenneth Walker, who was licensed to carry a firearm, fired first, injuring a law enforcement officer, whereupon police returned fire into the apartment with more than 20 rounds. A wrongful death lawsuit filed against the police by the Taylor family's attorney alleges that the officers, who entered Taylor's home "without knocking and without announcing themselves as police officers", opened fire "with a total disregard for the value of human life", but the police account claims the officers did knock and announce themselves before forcing entry.[3][4] A New York Times investigation concluded that a neighbor heard the officers shout "Police!" once (contrary to what law enforcement told investigators) and knocked three times, while 11 other neighbors heard no announcement. Every witness account conflicts with law enforcement's.[5]A neighbor involved in the New York Times investigation filed a lawsuit against the officers involved in the raid. The lawsuit claims, among other things, that a man was nearly shot, that law enforcement "spray[ed] gunfire into Chelsey Napper's apartment with a total disregard for the value of human life" and "[a] bullet that was shot from the defendant police officers' gun flew inches past Cody Etherton's head while he was in the hallway of Chelsey Napper's apartment". The man is unidentified; Napper is understood to be a pregnant woman and Etherton is understood to be a child.[13]

On June 23, 2020, Officer Brett Hankison was fired for his actions during the raid.In his termination letter, his chief says Hankison's conduct "displayed an extreme indifference to the value of human life" and is a "shock to the conscience" as he "wantonly and blindly fired ten (10) rounds". The chief blamed him for the gunshots that led to the Napper lawsuit.[14] On September 15 the City of Louisville agreed to pay Taylor's family $12 million and reform police practices as part of a settlement.[15]

Truth is cops aren’t properly trained and have no consequences to their actions. Why is it that military personel has major repercussions for opening fire in a WAR when dealing with people who have the intent to kill you, but cops dealing with civilians do as they please? Not sure if srs

Cops dont do as they please. They file for and are granted a warrant and in this case returned fure from someone in the home.
