Size is so important in a fight (srs)

An ant can have as many black belts as he wants, but at the end of the day, a human could easily squish him. There comes a point where no amount of skill can protect you from the bloatlord.

if they’re both within 100lbs of each other skill> size. several powerlifters have gotten their asses beat by guys significantly smaller than them.

Size isn’t the be all end all. Skill matters. It’s just that at a certain point, all the skill in the world isn’t going to be enough to save you when the size discrepancy is big enough.

At a certain point, the bigger guy can literally just fling himself on top of the smaller guy and it’ll be goodnight sweet manlet prince.

Size is only the key factor if everything else is equal

Skill is super important, but not always the key factor either

Mentality, balls and aggression are probably the most important thing

Only if everything else is equal. I used to spar with a huuuuuge cop at the mma gym I used to train at. Guy was literally twice my size must have been 6'6 and 300lbs of semi bloat. If he got top position on me it wasnt ideal but generally I could beat him easily especially if we were striking.

in the octagon that’s a tactic, but in a street fight fighting on the ground is the dumbest thing you can do. head kicks from outsiders, weapons, etc.

If it’s you against multiple attackers then fair enough. Against one attacker though? Guy would be helpless, like a beached turtle trapped underneath a semi truck.

This is true but you are not accounting for the rules you spar under or even fight in an mma bout. When there are no rules like in a legit fight, size carries even more weight. pun intended.

No it's not the only thing that matters in a fight is strength and not giving up.

How does getting stronger not help you in a fight?

Although, that said, I don’t necessarily think powerlifting is ideal for this because of it’s overemphasis on squat, bench, deadlift.

So me versus an ant, as long as the ant doesn’t give up, it’ll still win? Srs at a certain point the size of the dog in the fight supersedes the size of the fight in the dog

It's not really as simple as this though.

Let me give you an example;

If one guy is 5'8 and 150lbs, and one guy is 6'2 and 240lbs, they are within 90lbs of each other.

5'8 dude can be more skilled, but it depends onhow much more skilledhe is. It's not as simple as the more skilled fighter will win, even if you constrain it to 100lbs limit, because that says nothing about how close the skill is. If 5'8 150lbs dude is the more skilled fighter, but 6'2 240lbs dude is still a skilled fighter, just not as skilled as 5'8 150lbs dude but the skill is fairly close, i'd have my money on 6'2 240lbs dude 9/10 times... but according to your statement manlet should win. Several powerlifters lose to guys much smaller than them because the skill gap is massive, not simply because they're less skilled.

Therefore, the more the size difference, the larger the skill gap needs to be to overcome said size difference (We're making assumptions here that size is related to strength etc which of course is not always true). If two peoples skill is close, size is going to be the key factor.. if two peoples sizes are close, skill is going to become the key factor. Neither is inherently the dominant factor.

Therefore; in general if we take two people and put them through 100 random fights, the probability distribution is such that the bigger guy will need less skill to win the same percentage of fights when compared to the smaller guy.

There is a point of no amount of skill being able to overcome physicality.

There is a point where a large gap in skill can overcome a large gap in physicality

There is a gradual change where as the gap in skill becomes less, the gap in physicality it can overcome becomes less until given an equal amount of skill, physicality once again becomes the deciding factor.

Then there’s always luck.

Jorge Masvidal vs much bigger guy in Kimbo's backyard
Cro Cop vs Hong Man Choi
Kaoklai vs Mighty Mo
Kharitonov vs Semmy
Steven Seagal vs Tyson Fury... oh, wait

But I mostly agree, it matters a lot... between professional fighters and between casuals.
Not at all between a professional fighter (or even a guy who did a lot of boxing/bjj/mma for many, many years) and a casual
A guy like Lomachenko or Figuereido would beat the **** out of every guy over 200 lbs and ripped here.
I like to learn from the mistakes of the people who take my advice.

I don't actually train mma anymore. I did boxing for 10 years from my teens to early 20s, then mma for several years, now just bjj but I do quite a bit of bag work and shadow boxing to stay sharp. Wanna start training karate or kickboxing.

You want to become more agile? In what sense? What are your goals? In general, cant go wrong with a lot of skipping, intelligent bag work and shadow boxing. Really though you need to spar a lot to develop true agility for fighting and get real time corrections from an experienced coach.

Skill is virtually everything. serious. even if you’re shorter and smaller a good fighting skillset can compensate for poor genetics

obviously size plays a role but the average Joe has zero fighting experience. lol at believing being big means you are guaranteed to win fights. biggest bodybuilding cope of all time
