Tradies at it again...MTA workers build tradie lair under Grand Central

https://nypost.com/2020/09/24/mta-wo...entral-tracks/
Three MTA tradesmen allegedly boozed, napped and watched TV inside a secret “man cave” built below the tracks at Grand Central Terminal, according to the MTA’s internal watchdog.

Investigators discovered the lounge — complete with futon, flat-screen, microwave and refrigerator — behind a plasterboard wall in an unused locksmith shop below Track 114, in the station’s lower level, according to a report by MTA Inspector General Carolyn Pokorny set to be released Thursday.

The investigators initially paid a surprised visit to the locksmith shop on Aug. 8, 2019, after concluding that Metro-North officials had failed to investigate two previous complaints about workers using the space to “hang out and get drunk and party.”

The three Metro-North employees — a wireman, carpenter foreman and electrical foreman, who were not named due to ongoing disciplinary proceedings — denied ever having been in the room.

But Pokorny’s office says they’d left their fingerprints behind, and the evidence that they used the underground hangout was “overwhelming.”

There, investigators found wooden cabinets that appeared to be specifically designed to conceal the TV and futon, along with a pullout cot sitting just outside the room. A half-empty beer sat in the fridge.

An Amazon streaming device attached to the TV had the carpenter foreman’s mobile hotspot on its list of available Wi-Fi networks, and was registered to the electrical foreman — whose name was also on a pull-up bar box and two 2018 datebooks found in the room, the IG said.

A receipt with the wireman’s name printed on it was found inside an air mattress box in the room, the IG said.

He initially admitted to being in the room with the electrical foreman while receiving overtime pay — but later recanted, according to Pokorny.

I heard a story from one of my tradie friends. The general laborer foreman on his job had this sweet office that he built up. He had an old mahogany desk, TV, desktop, fridge, and then even a couch. No one really cared because it was the general foreman and as long as the work got done, no one gave him crap. Until one day one of the woman tradies that worked under him made a complaint. She said he didn't follow through on his end of the deal, which was more hours for overtime pay. She was told that if she blew him, she would reward him with more hours. Then suddenly like 10 women that were there and used to be there came forward and said the same thing. This tradie literally built himself a sweet ass office in some random room no one really knew about, and had his employee's blow him everyday.

Back in college I worked on the dorm crew, we would fix stuff for students if it broke. We had one storage room underneath the all guy dorm. We would mainly store mattresses in there. It was a long room, and at the very back where there should have been mattresses, there were none. Instead, behind a massive wall of stacked mattresses was a hollowed out 12x12 room. We setup a bunk bed, mini fridge, chairs, and Nintendo. You’d have to squeeze through about 2 layers of mattresses to get into the room. This was called the birthing canal. It was pretty priceless when you wanted some downtime, you squeeze through the canal and find like 4 dudes already in there playing Nintendo. Good times.
Entire NYPD should go on strike. You'll see then how quickly the mayor changes his tone.
