Air lines running out of stimulus money

On today’s show, CNBC.com’s Leslie Josephs lays out the stakes for the airline industry, which will run out of federal bailout funds at the end of the month. Plus, CNBC.com’s Annie Palmer breaks down Amazon’s disavowal of Echelon’s ‘Prime Bike.’

Airlines earlier this year received $25 billion in federal payroll support which prohibits job cuts and requires minimum service levels through Sept. 30.

With that date a week away, airline CEOs, including Kelly, have met with government officials and lawmakers in Washington in a last-minute plea for additional aid for the sector struggling with demand at less than a third of last year’s levels because of the pandemic. Like other airline chiefs, Kelly said the carrier doesn’t expect a strong rebound in air travel anytime soon.

Oh yeah just open up the entire world, getting every country to agree would be simple af. Ensuring that travel destinations won’t be impacted when you arrive, simple af. Getting 40-50+ year old travellers to take the risk in the first place, simple af.

There’s absolutely nothing simple about this. Airlines will be in rough shape for a long fukn time

Heard some rumblings early on about turning them into a utility type of sector, they're too exposed to risks like this and margins were already low af

The cure worse than the disease. The Chinese knew they just had to plant the seed and let fear and infighting take over. They won the war without dropping a single bomb

“The cure is worse than the disease” applies here. Hell, it applies to this whole situation about the China virus.

Corporate bailout is not inherent capitalism, that's socialism. The free market would have abandoned airlines.

Doesn't change the fact that the damage is now done. And there are a fukton of normies out there who legit don't want to be exposed to this virus, or don't want to risk catching it and infecting more vulnerable family members (or just other random people)

But understanding that requires being able to see past the tip of your own fukn nose, which many people apparently can't

Should be pretty clear -- to anyone who isn't a low IQ pleb -- that I'm talking about damage to people's perceptions

They could open up travel right now and airlines would still not immediately recover, and they won't recover until normies feel they can travel safely
