When to the chiropractor for the first time. Questions for those who go.

I love popping my back and neck and after years of watching youtube videos decided to go. GF booked me an appointment. They said they needed xrays to really see what was going on but after filling out paperwork and asking questions about everything she did a few adjustments, but nothing as extensive as what I saw the videos do. Pushed down on my hip, felt something move. Pushed down on my upper back, Did feel relief. Cracked my neck while I was laying face down and it seemed to crack the lower neck bones but only a couple of them.

Is this because it was the first visit and they didn't have x-rays and such, or are some chiropractors just not do much? Trying to decide if I should give this place another try or go somewhere else. I will say my range of motion in my neck feels better, isn't binding up, but I want to be folded up like a pretzel and cracked to oblivion.

sounds like an insurance scam by a quack who's not a medical doctor but insists on calling himself one.

i feel like most chiros will only treat you for the issues you report(say a car accident and you complain of neck pain) as per usual with the medical industry. theyre not interested in getting to the root cause of an issue just treating the symptoms that manifest from it. i'd call around and inquire that you'd like full body adjustments or even go in and show the chiro videos on your phone what specifically you're interested in getting done

Congratulations you just paid over $100 for some quack to essentially crack your back like cracking your knuckles. “Adjustments” lmao. Spend your money on a good massage, and if your back pain is mechanical, only a medical doctor/surgeon is gonna be able to help.

Keep going back because adjustments wont hold with just one visit. Miscers who say chiros are fake have never been or just upset that they need to keep going but wont acknowledge that you need to take ALL the antibiotics or go to ALL the PT appointments.

But you also need to listen to her advice. Do the exercises/stretches and listen to her "do and Do nots" otherwise you will negate what the adjustment.

strong this. shocked at how many miscers hate on chiros. years of terrible posture catch up to you and seeing someone to reset you and realign you on-top of doing your own stretching/corrective work i think its not only great but a helpful combination to remedy any bio mechanic problems

Massages are great but they dont focus at all on joint maniuplation. If muscle tightness is causing the issues then a massage will help, but if it isnt muscle tightness then it wont help much at all. And fukking LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL at "I have pain therefore i need surgery." Have you ever had surgery before? Like...an invasive back surgery? It took me over a month to walk on my own again after my L5/S1 discectomy. If I could go back and do it all over again, I would have seen my chiro rather than hoping my disc would have healed on its own

Absolutely. I have a compensation curve in my back. Its scoliosis, but the curve is caused my uneven hips. My right hip is almost a half inch higher than my left so the spine curves in order to keep the eyes level. Anyway, 2 MDs Dx'd me with scoliosis but in my early 20s, a chiro foind i had a compensation curve and then an MD confirmed. Wne tto 4 months of chiro appointments, my lateral Thoracis curve went from 18 degrees down to 11

I think most of them hear stories about people getting strokes from neck adjustments and think "all joint adjustments are like that" when they arent at all. I COMPLETELY understand why people wouldnt want their neck adjusted though. Was scary as fuk when i first had it done. Now, i do it 15 times a day on my own (not a good thing)

The adjustments aren't real and they are dangerous. Feel free to keep going to a "doctor" whose specialty is based on something some guy was taught by dead spirits and his son murdered him for

It's because people think chiros just pop your joints and send you on your way.

OP you have to really research your chiro. Just like doctors, physical therapists, specialists, etc you have to find the right one for you. There are tons of awful doctors, PTs, and specialists that are quacks and scam artists that don't do chit.

There are a lot of chit ones out there, but also good ones. That is the important part. Plus it depends why you are going to them.

Problem with chiros is that if it is ALL you do, it isn't really doing a ton. Yes, manipulations can "adjust" things but the problem is if you don't estalish a new muscle connection for the muscles to hold things in place and keep doing what you were doing, the change will go right back and you wasted your time and money.

So an adjustment, followed by proper strength and/or mobility work is necessary. Problem with many chiros (not all) is they simply crack, send you away and tell you to come back 3 times a week for a "treatment plan" which is a total scam. Don't fall for the "3 times a week for 4 weeks, then 2 times a week for four weeks" BS.

I've been in the rehab space for 20 years and refer people to chiros, but only ones that provide soft tissue release/ART as well as cracking IF NECESSARY. Must musucloskeletal issues can be resolved with soft tissue work and proper exercise protocols. And they shouldn't demand to see you multiple times a week unless you have a serious condition that requires it and they can show you change after a 3-4 week period.

lol wut? I guess i just imagine my scoliotic curve reducing then. lol at being so closed minded. Tell me, how many times have you been to a chiro of at all? Was it just one single chiro and you used that one chiro to label ALL chiros? Did you see a few different ones a handful of times and used those experiences to label all chiros? I mean, if you went to a BUNCH of different chiropractors and they all told you some different stuff (for the same issue) then I can see why you have such a negative outlook, but i would imagine youve probably never seen one in your life

Funny because there are chiros that do much more than what you said.

You just proved my point. Making a general assumption of all people in a field based on personal experience isn't truth.

Please tell me you aren't a doctor. No way you're this stupid.

The best part is I had a specialist come into my school once a month specifically for athletes (in college), and I was have severe spasms around my ribs for years. It was caused by my scoliosis. She looks at it after I explain it to her, and she just wrote me a prescription for muscle relaxers and pain meds after 3 min.

I literally went on youtube and followed the advice from chiropractors and have not had one single spasm since because I figured out how to work against my scoliosis that was causing debilitating spasms.

But but but they're all crooks and retards! All scammers! Doctors on average are some of the worst scammers I have ever seen in my life. It's just a paycheck to them.

I support good chiropractors. Found one in my home town that is great. First time I went, HE told ME what my problems were. He was 100% correct without me giving him any info. Took care of my SIJ dysfunction and helped my thoracic outlet syndrome. Adjustments only took 10 mins each time. The first month, I went 3x per week. 2nd month, 2x per week. 3rd month, 1x per week. Then twice a month. Now, I go maybe once every 2-3 months. It has done wonders for me. It’s also free. Can’t complain. Just have to be consistent with it.

EXACTLY as I thought. You are like the little kid who hates a food he has never tried. Well, as you get older and joints start to hurt simply because you sneezed too hard and a doctors prescription doesnt do the job, do yourself a favor and see a chiro. But see a well reviewed one.

MD's get paid to prescribe certain brand name Rx's so there is that. For the most part, their course of action (for pathogenic issues) is to prescribe something to fight the pathogen) and it usually works. but lets say you have an inflammed brachioradialis and its been bothering you for a year. "Here is a steroid pack and some muscle relaxers. If it comes back, call us and we'll try something else." GO to a chiro and they will look at your wrist and shoulder to see if they are the cause. Granted, for a problem like this, a physical/physio therepaist is a better choce but im just using this as an example. Doctors are more for internal medicine (in most cases. barring a sports doctor) while chiros are for joint maipulation
