Any good war movies?

Really liked "Saving Private Ryan" and "Hacksaw Ridge". Never cried so much over a movie till I saw those two.

1917 was 10/10, the outpost came out this year like 7/10, blackhawk down classic 9/10, 13 hours is strong 9/10 as well imo lone surivivor like 8/10. tons of good ones. also band of brothers/the pacific

Honestly though, the movie did as good of a job as they could have with the time limits and so on.

Of course Mark Bowden provides input, but Ridley Scott really did a good job at portraying the message Mark was trying to send. And Mark did his research.

Amazing team. Along with the actors of course.

But most importantly, the origins story and people the actors based their characters on.

It is an amazing movie, based on an amazing book, based on amazing people.


Hanz Zimmer as the go to musician helped as well. Of course him and Scott worked together on many amazing movies.

Probably a loaded question since books are typically better than movies (for obvious reasons). Worth reading the book first instead of watching the movie? Have been trying to read more lately, it never crossed my mind to read a war book.

Just do both. The order doesn’t really matter.

Either way you won’t get all the details the first time around.

Watch the movie first or read the book. Then do the other.

The most important thing is after you do each of them, do each of them again.

I saw the movie first. Shortly after read the book. Then I saw the movie again about a million times until I memorize it entirely. Since then I have read the book three or four times.

About a decade after I saw the movie the first time I read in the company of heroes, no room for error and so on. In 2013 Matt Eversman did a 20 year commemorative documentary (I forget the platform) where he actually went back to Mogadishu so that is worth a watch too.

Man I could talk about this mission and how it has been documented all day long. To a degree, it does get personal.

Army aviation is not a big community. I am part of it.
