Why do people get offended by things

just fkn lmfao @ you if you get offended. another person should be able to say anything and everything to you about you/your family/kids/ beliefs etc and it should not bother you in the slightest.

some people on the otherhand risk their lives/prison because others say mean things. smh my head

only people that should be able to influence you would be like your close family/S.O

Agreed. It’s ego though. I grew out of overly caring what others said/thought of me with age. I can’t understand how some people let words have so much power over them to the point of lashing out physically other than they are extremely insecure.

Exactly. I have been labeled a pussy many times because I refuse to fight. The funny thing , I have a martial art background and I used to train powerlifting and strongman. Granted I am only 190 lbs, but my point here, it would take a lot for me to get into a fight because in a fight even if you win you may end up losing. Plus I don't want anything happened to my pretty face,lol.

In all seriousness though, when someone gets offended or triggered, it says a lot more about that person than the individual saying the supposedly offensive thing. Saying something mean, you're always going to be an a$$hole, but people are cool with that. I've been called an a$$hole, I don't care. I'm not a brainwashed sheep. If you're going after me trying to get me fired and all that, that just shows me your parents did a poor job at teaching you emotion regulation skills and you're now essentially a toddler-adult who was never provided with strong boundaries and limitations.

I think it is an evolutionary trait that goes back to basic survival needs.

People identify with their thoughts, ideas, families, sports teams, whatever. When you offend one of these things, in their mind you are offending them.

For the purposes of this discussion, the word offending can be replaced with rejecting. You are making fun of an idea, so you are not accepting it, you are rejecting it. People identify with this idea, you are rejecting them.

In early human history, rejection meant death. We needed to be accepted by our small groups of nomads. Being rejected would mean no access to the shared resources of the group like shelter or food. It was nearly impossible to survive on your own. This would obviously result in a significant emotional response.

I think deep down inside, this is the core behind being offended. A subconscious last ditch effort at screaming for survival. Obviously, the current environment does not mandate such a significant degree of acceptance to survive, but the remanences of the struggle of our ancestors still exists in us.

I'm more of a "moderate guy", but i've noticed a lot of my more conservative friends becoming increasingly as sensitive as the "liberal snowflakes".

Was watching a football game with my neighbor the other day and he legit got triggered by the state farm insurance commercial because the insurance guy wasn't white anymore, but instead it was some mixed race dude.

I was like lmfaooo why the fuk does this bother you? Would you have even noticed 8 years ago before our country descended into a degenerate state of "no you're stupid" "...no you" between political parties? i hate our current times. What's worse is that the vast majority of things that are triggering left/right wingers are 100% inconsequential to their daily life.
