ITT We Discuss Training: Calves Edition

Alright boyos.

There aren't enough lifting threads on the misc. So we're gonna see if we can't address one of the easiest things for a brah to lag on.

Some say it's genetics, but that doesn't mean it's impossible to get them to grow.

Let's talk calves boyos. What are your calf routines, and what do your calves look like?

Obligatory, you know I'm asking because I'm trying to get my chit to grow.

I just do standing calf raises 2-3 times a week. A lot of basketball has helped too.

They are a stubborn muscle group that needs to get hit more than once if you want to see growth.

I don't have anything to add. But if there are any gurus out there who can suggest how to avoid calf strains when running on concrete/pavement, I'll rep. (other than "avoid running," I don't do it a lot, but when I do...)

Ballet class with your doppelgänger twice a week, srs. I do the first half of barre work "flat," then frappe, ronde jambe, and grande battement on relevé (on your toes/ball of the foot, basically.) Add in a couple balances en relevé at the end of the combination and you're set.

Apart from shoes, I couldn't tell you how to have a better run on concrete. I picked up running this summer, but only run on a track - partly for the reason that running 5-6 days a week on concrete sounded like a good way to ruin my legs.

idk calves just don't grow. I don't think there is a muscle in there. Is there even any proof the "calf" is a muscle? it's the only muscle in the body that doesn't grow

The surefire way to grow calves is to dreamerbulk, stay fat for a couple of years, then massive cut. All former bloatlords have big calves. Being Asian also helps. Having long achilles tendons is pretty much a death sentence for big calves but it evens out since long achilles tendons are awesome for explosive power and jumping.

There's a muscle alright. Get a calf cramp and you'll find out real quick

Legit I have considered getting a weight vest and wearing it around to simulate being a dreamer bulk bloatloard...

Yeah I was thinking that I may have to hit them 3-4x weekly. This confirms it for me.

I wrote a lot about this subject in another thread and went into detail about my routine as well as the volume, intensity and frequency.

Today i will just say think of your calves like any other muscle.
If you train them once a week with 3 sets of standing calf raises or some other exercise they will probably be small. If you wonder why you have a huge chest training 15 sets volume 2x a week and look like you are riding a chicken. It's not hard to figure out why.

I had tiny calves before.. i worked hard for years and made gains.

Calves were my absolute worst body part and were described as "dinky" by an ex, so i have made them my best part.
Here is what i did.
1. train them first, volume
2. i met Kevin Levrone( pro BB) and he said heavy weight/high reps.
3. heavy/high volume
4. seated calf raises( 1/2/3 plates a side) 4 sets
hack squat machine, load it up, 4 sets
leg press, load it up 4 sets
as a finisher i use the area behind the seated shoulder press for toe raises, very slowly 10-15 reps/4 sets
the standing platform where you spot the shoulder press.
