Rewatching Old Simpsons
So I was rewatching some older Simpsons recently, and I gotta ask....why does everyone d!ckride this show so hard? I feel like I was too young to realize how corny the jokes are and how lame the force-fed celebrity cameos are. Never realized how one-note and boring all the characters are; many of them serve as just a single punchline stretched over decades of content. How many times can Nelson say "Ha ha" without you wanting to gouge your eyes out? "Disco Stu?" Really, that's a character that shows up more than once? Even the "golden age" episodes are pretty mediocre.
The Simpsons are basically like the Led Zeppelin of comedy shows; enough people said "GOAT" where everyone just blindly follows it, without acknowledging the flaws, or that plenty of other shows are on par (or better).
I used to watch two episodes on Fox every single night as a kid, for many years. Once South Park came around I kinda stopped watching the Simpsons, it just seemed so much tamer and more juvenile and less funny. Now I do realize the humor on Simpsons is SUPPOSED to be an "all ages" vibe, but then I also know these people in their early 30s who act like the show is their religion, and base their personalities around it. Look at all the *******s in "Simpsons posting" and the *******s making "Simpsonswave" videos, it's absolutely pathetic. The show simply isn't good enough to become the basis of one's entire personality, yet you can't go 10 minutes without seeing some ****gy Bart meme or "Steamed Hams."
Having said that, the episodes were ENTERTAINING, at the very least. I genuinely like the plots and how the stories are so random. But they aren't all that funny, really. I chuckled, at most. I think I roll my eyes at the comedy on the Simpsons more than I laugh. It's more of a "Groan" than a laugh type of humor. And the revolving door just means the show lost all of it's identity when the best writers quit. South Park, on the other hand, is basically TWO GUYS who constantly evolved and changed. I mean I can't believe anyone would consider Simpsons in the same league, South Park just dominates it in every single field, arguably even in influence now as South Park is on equal footing insofar as changing the very nature of culture and society itself. It's way less forced on people though like The Simpsons.
I was just watching a live stream from South Park of "Fan Favorite moments" and every clip they're showing is hilarious. Every single clip is like "Oh man that's fukcing great!" Bono is a turd. Jackin' it in San Diego. Shake Weight asking for a public quickie, even clips from the pilot. It all landed, it all remained funny. It aged so much better.

Never really liked the Simpsons. King of the Hill is the GOAT animated series. South Park is pretty awesome too

South Park is great but 90s Simpson’s edges it. The Simpsons has aged better too.
The fact you’re mentioning celebrity cameos suggests you’ve been watching garbage tier 00s and 10s Simpsons. In the 90s if a celebrity did a cameo they rarely played themselves

It´s so easy to compare The Simpsons with series that came after The Simpsons, their importance and influence can´t be understimated.
But there are 10 great seasons, and 20 on the decline
Edit: Also, the GOAT adult animated series ever is this, literally a machine gun of rolf jokes, and so politically incorrect it would make sjw cry if made these days
Spoiler!

I still like to binge it when I'm on the treadmill. Also loved Beavis & Butthead, Family Guy, South Park, Ren & Stimpy before they fired the original guy. I couldn't get into American Dad or Futurama.

Interesting factoid: Smithers was black in his first appearance, white for all remaining episodes.

I don't think it tried to be funny the way other shows did. it's more entertaining than funny. although still funny.

Re-watching it as an adult actually allows you to appreciate some material in ways that you never would have while younger

All these shows everyone's mentioning wouldn't be here if it wasn't for The Simpsons.

Its 2020 and you are reviewing an 80's and 90's show that was the inspiration of many of the similar animated shows that came after it, The Simpsons opened many doors and their formula its still used to this day.
Also the Simpsons goal isnt to be hilarious like South Park's, which is another great show but you watch them for different reasons. Both very good forms of entertainment IMO.

"The flowers bloom, then wither... The stars shine and one day become extinct. This earth, the sun, the galaxies and even the big universe, someday will be destroyed. Compared with that, the human life is only a blink, just a little time. In that short time - people are born, laugh, cry, fight, are injured, feel joy, sadness, hate someone, love someone. All in just a moment. And then, are embraced by the eternal sleep called death."

I realize it's a great show but even the golden era doesn't seem to quite hit the levels people (including myself) give it credit for. It was my favorite show for about a decade.
I think my favorite episode is when Homer gets the job at the other nuclear power plant and it turns out the guy is a terrorist and Homer is too dumb to realize it. Marge becomes and alcoholic because she's so bored with maids and self-cleaning appliances. Lisa is getting mogged by woodland critters.

King of the Hill is the goat and it's not even close. I always die laughing watching that show. But when I was a kid the first 4 season of Family Guy killed me. Never really got into the simpsons.
I liked Futurama, but it wasn't "lmao" funny.
