Any car experts know wtf happened to my clutch/does it need replacing?

I noticed it was becoming harder to change gears/gearstick was getting stuck out of the blue. Was still drivable but I wasn't able to change gears smoothly, always had to force it into gear. I went to start the car again earlier, I couldn't even get it in gear and it would crunch when trying to put it in reverse. I tried again a few minutes later and it was completely fine, no longer having to force it into gear and gear changes are smooth again as if nothing was wrong. WTF, is it safe?

What car? It's possibly something simpler like a clutch cable adjustment or issue with the hydraulic system that actuates the slave cylinder.
