Back in the Gym After 6 Months. Lost Motivation

gyms just reopened here 2 weeks ago after like 6 months and I've gone like 3 times. My lifts have gone to **** and I've put on 20 pounds of fat. Two years of some serious dedication I went from benching 135 to 225x8 and today I could barely do 185 for 3. It's a bit depressing tbh anyone else like this? how to deal with it

showing up is 99% of the battle. just get yourself to the gym and worry about it when you get there. chances are, once you're there, you'll fall into your rhythm and do what needs to be done.
when you don't feel like going, just get yourself there. keep putting the work in, have patience, and you will get back. give yourself 90 days to see results.

Try a different routine. I was doing an upper lower split before lockdown and lost motivation when gyms reopened. I'm now doing PPL and my motivation is back. I switched out flat bench for incline, dumbell OHP for barbell and Tbar rows for bent over rows so the loss of strength isn't so noticeable as I haven't done those exercises in some time.

It's still depressing as hell not being able to even squat 3 plates yet tho.

Use the mirror for motivation for the weight loss. Good luck brah

I'm there with you. I could do 1x220 lbs bench now i can do 1x130 lbs bench flat.
You just gotta keep going and get a routine going. First 2 weeks are the hardest.

remember - it's 90% diet. get your diet back to what it was 6 months ago. copy what you did then. examine what you are doing wrong today and change it ASAP.

I got back to 100% after a month. You bounce back quickly if you focus on a lot on recovery and diet. Have maybe a few more weeks before lockdown hits again, or maybe it won't and elections will change everything.

This( training) should be a LIFETIME pursuit not a short term one, so regroup and get your ass in gear.
All states reopened at different times, so suck it up, like we all did, and execute your new plan.
Good Luck!

Motivation is horseshhit. It's fleeting. Some days it's there and some days it's not. It's high in the beginner stage when you're seeing rapid/drastic changes but starts to wane when progress hits a plateau.

The real difference maker isDISCIPLINE. Doing that shhit when you really don't feel like it but you do it anyway.

Muscle memory OP. You will be surprised how your body reacts to a month of good discipline and dedication. Its not like starting over AT ALL
"The flowers bloom, then wither... The stars shine and one day become extinct. This earth, the sun, the galaxies and even the big universe, someday will be destroyed. Compared with that, the human life is only a blink, just a little time. In that short time - people are born, laugh, cry, fight, are injured, feel joy, sadness, hate someone, love someone. All in just a moment. And then, are embraced by the eternal sleep called death."

pretty much the same as me. Haven't gone since march, before lockdown i was doing 5x5 with 110kg bench after getting back into the gym 2 week ago i struggled with 80kg for 4 reps lol.

So hard getting back into it but it just takes time to get lifts back up

Truth! You just have to force yourself to go. Once you're there you'll probably have a good workout. Sundays I usually dread going and have to force myself, but once I'm there I have a great workout and come home happy.

This is true as well. I bet you'll get your strength back faster than you think.

I'm surprised people didnt lift through COVID... I have adjustable dumbbells (5-70 lbs), a bench, and a barbell and about 200 lbs in plates of mostly 10s and 25s (all super old and rusty). Didn't make any gains during COVID, but strength stayed the same.
