Why was the net worth thread deleted?

I was typing up a dear diary sized response and the thread was invalid when I tried to post. Did it go downhill fast? I thought it was a great topic.

Don't worry, we all saw your post and mired the 750 cows. Definitely takes a lot of hardwork, good financial sense, and some luck along the way. Better to work hard while young and enjoy life later down the road. The amount of people I see at retirement age without any kind of nest egg is alarming.

I can’t remember the dudes name that employed 50+ people but to me he’s the winner, couldn’t imagine having to manage that many people. Found I try interesting he’s in a very different part of the country and his biggest problem is also mine.

I must've missed his post. Is it hard for you to find people you trust/delegate the work to since you're so used to doing everything yourself? I'm always mirin business owners. Takes a lot to build a business, I'll probably be a slave to the corporate world for most of my life.

There’s a balance between trust of delegation and quality of work they perform. It’s hard to explain but the biggest issue I have is nobody wants to work. The welfare system has taken the will to work out of people.

Best thing I read in terms of being a business owner and managing employees is that if you don't feel uncomfortable letting your employees handle tasks, then you are aren't delegating enough and still doing work that an employee should be doing.
Obviously if you have a small business you need to still take care of super critical stuff or at least check that very important things are done on time. But otherwise you have to trust in your employees. Of course you have to hire people that you can trust or you are shooting yourself in the foot.
I only have a few employees but once I resigned myself to stop worrying and trust that they are hard at work doing things properly while I'm at home it made my life so much less stressful. Leave the stress for when something actually goes wrong. (I have a small gas station for reference, nothing crazy, as long as they show up and work the till things are okay)

My grocery store probably isn’t a whole lot different than your gas station, probably just more inventory. I never ask my employees to do anything I haven’t done or wouldn’t do but I only have one I trust enough to do the higher level stuff but even then I try to do all that stuff myself.

I think it gets easier with more employees because there is a hierarchy. If low level grunt doesn't do something important, middle manager get in **** so middle manager makes sure grunt get important stuff done. If middle manager lets the grunt miss something important then the executive over the manager is going to look bad so he makes sure things get done, etc. In the end more employees means more people involved so one person slacking won't cause the dominos to fall.

Out off curiosity, how much stuff expires at your store and do you get credit from suppliers or do you profits cover those losses? My inventory is so simple since I just have a tiny 1-till, no aisles, kiosk but I end up with so much expired candy I don't know how larger stores do it lol

Spoilage tends to vary depending on the time of the month but I just use profits to cover. I got a new supplier a couple years ago and they’re terrible compared to the supplier they bought out. One downside to being in a low population area is the supplier has a monopoly.

Edit: I live in the type 2 diabetes capital of the world so most of my spoilage is fresh fruits and veggies, I’m almost always bought out of candy. I’d wager average body fat percentage on people here is north of thirty. I’m known as a bodybuilder here, now look at my avi and lol at that notion.

Those threads always interest me and I find it amusing to read what good managers of people do. I run a small group of like 7-8 people and managing their interpersonal conflicts alone is a full time freaking job.

15 of my 16 store employees are women so I’m no stranger to interpersonal beefs between employees, my biggest way of keeping them from getting in each other’s nerves is nobody works more than 2 days with somebody else, seems to do the trick.

I lucked out and ended up with my 2 full time guys who have no desire to move up. 40+ years old working a minimum wage job. That's the best they'll do and they're resigned to it. They live paycheck to paycheck wasting their money on cigarettes and junk food. But, super reliable, they've never called in sick or missed a day even once in almost a year now. They can't afford to not get paid lol. One is a little lazy and the other doesn't have the best customer service, but I know they'll be there on time and ready to work.
Debating trying out a young Indian guy part time, probably here on a work visa so he'll work extra hard to keep the job so he doesn't get kicked out until he gets residency. But if they're young I'm sure it's harder to keep them.

lol my track record was terrible until the last 2 fellas. It's hard to find the proper mix between capable, reliable, and willing to work for fairly low-moderate wages.
