There's no way this could possibly even come close to Jackson's LOTR. The artistic/cultural climate is so radically different (worse) from 15 years ago, and even if it weren't, they are masterpieces which cannot be touched.

Directors, screenwriters aren't free to write or direct what they think will make the best show or film.
