I live <5 miles from the ocean, AMA.

I live less than 1 mile from the bay. Unfortunately that bay is Galveston bay, which is basically a filthy cesspool in comparison to ocean beaches. Still beats not being anywhere near saltwater though.

Brb drive less than 5 minutes to get to 10 different fishing spots.
Brb patio bars on the water.
Brb hop in a boat and go cruising and/or fishing.
Brb go chill on the dirty ass beach.

I'll probably get a place in Florida within the next couple years. A much better place for a single guy to live than the Midwest. I haven't actually been to Florida in like 10+ years(other than the airport about 50 times), but it seems like a good place to at least have a condo. And to declare as your legal residence for tax purposes.

i live 15 mins from the beach and dont ever go really. we would go to the lake instead. you can actually do a lot more fun stuff on the lake than you can on the beach. brb laying down not moving. brb getting yelled at for swimming. brb cant **** around on floating things or blatantly smoke and drink.
