What running shoes do you guys use?

I'm looking for something more comfortable and supportive because I have been getting shin splints lately and also my ankle was broken earlier this year. Thanks!

you need to go to a running store and have them look at your gait and get shoes designed for your gait. Other people's recommendations, other than quality, are not going to help.

Thats what I was gonna do but theres not any within two hours of me. There used to be one but they closed. Only thing I could do now is the little test online that Brooks shoes does.

I have been Merrell Trail Gloves, that have like no sole for the past year. Recently I moved and the track around my house is asphalt and runnig on the track with those has been giving me some funky pains in my knees so I went back to my Brooks Pure Grit, which has a bit of a sole. These actually gave me shin splints switching back. I also have some Brooks Adreneline GTS that I wear on the road I might have to dust off.

call the sporting goods stores near you - sometimes the Dick's has someone knowledgeable working there. OR actual shoe stores, if any still exist.

I think that is common to get shin splints if you go "barefoot" running back to cushioned.

If you buy the previous generation of brooks to the one they recommend it’s pretty much the same shoe 30% off.

Brooks beast. I have flat feet and overpronation of piss but these provide good support on long runs without hurting my feet/shins.

I'm a neutral so I use Brooks Ghost, but that professional fitting is crucial. Can you make the drive just one time to get the fitting? Things won't change much after that so you can order shoes online.

But honestly OP. I’d take the drive and get properly sized.

Prio by Xero Shoes. Very minimalist, like a 5mm sole. Been doing maybe 10-12 miles a week in them all asphalt running and I stand/walk on concrete all day at work. No pain yet, sometimes my feet feel a little sore and calves get tight. I have actually only been running since April this year.

Most important thing for me to stay pain free is running with a short stride/fast cadence, dynamic warmups, and stretching/soft tissue work.

You are probably suffering from some mechanical issues now if you didn't get shin splints before. Testing shoes is never a bad idea, however, you might want to look into physical therapy or a sports injury physical trainer if you can find one outside of a college/professional sport team.

I wear Altra Lone Peak for trails and Altra Viho for road or flat surfaces.

UA Mirage series is tremendous and a decent buy around 80-85 bucks. the "Tac" versions are all black and pretty cool.

as stated above though, running shoes (especially outdoor/mixed terrain) are all about personal fit and preference. the Mirage have always worked for me and my running is around my neighborhood on a mix of asphalt and grass.

I usually recommend minimalist shoes NB makes, which takes more than a few weeks to get used to.

Since you already got injuries so it might aggravate them.

However, when your injuries get completely healed then you may like to try it.

A midfoot or forefoot strike disperse the forces associated with bipedal movement and preserve the integrity of your joints and other tissues.

When you choose the shoes, the most important point is "a sufficiently wide toe which allows for natural toe splay"

Since I started wearing them I never have suffered any knee or ankle pains.

Good luck.

While I try to stay on the balls of my feet, I simply can’t maintain it for more than a few miles. Trying to build up the proper strength for it by alternating now and then.

However have read more than a few studies showing as long as you are striking directly under your torso, a heel strike isn’t bad.

After ensuring when I do heel strike, it is directly below me and I’m not striding forwards, I completely got rid of any pain associated with long runs (10 miles)

takes a while to strengthen the muscles in the front of the shin. (Tibialis anterior)

the balls of the feet are still the ideal place to contact the ground when running, for both speed and injury prevention. notice how track shoes have spikes in the ideal running contact area

I trained with 100-400s and only ran distances to warm up (5-8 mi). so the goals are different

cliff: all I'm saying is running form may be his issue. not the shoes

Nike Pegasus 37. There's a reason they've been around for 37+ years. $120 MSRP but you can get them on sale or with coupon codes for $80-$100. Try on a pair that's a 1/2 size bigger than your usual size.
