you think men should get maternity leave too?

a post-pregnancy woman is no different from an overgrown baby. the woman is on the couch nagging at you and farting, no sex anymore cause the baby gets in the way. we gotta cook now and wash the dishes. it's selfish that women think their job is so hard; most girls these days don't even change diapers. I'm the one who brings in the money; all she does is let baby suck her titty and gets a free year off

I think that pregnancy is a personal choice a woman makes because she thinks it will make her life better. In that way, its no different from my choice to take a vacation, take up yoga, or any one of a thousand choices that I might make. Yet, for some reason, a woman gets special paid time off to support her choice.

I say if a woman gets maternity leave, then everyone should get a comparable amount of time off to pursue a life choice that they see as important and beneficial.

Wait, who gets a free year off? Maternity leave is typically 6-12 weeks. At my work the dads get 2 or 3 weeks.

lol Wat?! People who have surgery typically get paid time off as well. When I had my shoulder surgery I had 6 weeks off at 75% pay. Also, you want 1-6 week old newborns sent to daycares? Da fuq?!

A shoulder injury is not something you chose. Thats a matter of basic health. As far as what I want done with 1-6 week old new borns...thats really none of my business. I didnt tell you to have a kid, did I? You should have had that figured out before you got pregnant.

It's called paternity leave. I think it's usually 2 weeks but I know in Europe they get like 2 months

Yes it is called a sabbatical, very good. Most jobs will not give you 12 weeks paid vacation for a sabbatical. But I doubt you know that because you probably dont have a job, other than as a paid troll.

Well, when I had my son I changed to evenings so I could be home during the day and my ex would be home at night with him. I also stayed home with him for several years. I don't at all think a newborn should be put in daycare that young. I don't begrudge women getting maternity leave.

I dont begrudge it either, I just think everyone should get the same benefit. Not just women, and not just for having a child.

I have a kid and I think that he is the most important thing in the world, but Im aware that not everyone thinks that. It is very hard for me to make the argument to my gay friend, that my having a child is more important than him going to tibet to find enlightenment. Right? So why should my wife get 12 weeks off paid to have a kid, but he cant get 12 weeks to pursue whats important to him? I cant make that argument.

Women shouldn't even get maternity leave. Lol @ men getting paid to not work

Save up for when you have a child, my wife just had one and works for Publix (PharmD) and didnt get any maternity leave. Why should you get paid when you aren't working?

That's it, I'm a physician who makes extra money by getting paid to troll a forum. Hopefully you one day find a job where you can take paid time off to enjoy personal pursuits.

We're offered 12 weeks at my job. Too bad they upped it after all my chitlins were born.

I wouldn't want to take that much time off though. Women's hormones + stress of sleep deprivation on top of it = no thanks, two weeks was enough.

The best solutions I have seen are the ones where the "leave" is given to the mother & father, to divide up as they see fit. Say, if it's a year with full pay, the mom takes 9 months and the father takes the remaining 3 as the mom heads back to work. Or a full year at full pay for the mom, etc.

The nuclear family is empowered by choice (and commitment, of course). I have known women who take no maternity leave at all - head straight back to work the next day. I find that kind of thing monstrous. And most of the ones I know in the U.S who only had 3 months of maternity leave find it devastating to "abandon" their kids so soon.
