It's scary for the first few hours, especially playing alone or maybe with just 1 other person. Although sometimes it gets more intense when you're in a group and everyone else dies 1 after the other.
Got into some "professional" games with some folks who knew the nuances of the game and they basically taught me what it's about and how it works. Almost like a science. Becomes less scary when you know some of the specifics and what to do in all situations. Even when you're knowledgeable though it can be pretty creepy if you're immersed into it.
