Anyone else feeling particularly nihilistic these days?
See title. I find it's been a bit worse on my end lately. The whole covid situation is probably exacerbating it. It's makes it difficult to motivate myself to do things. Just this overarching sense of pointlessness and disdain for people in general.
Where are my fellow misanthropists at?
Silver lining - you can definitely use your nihilism and misanthropy to fuel your workouts because of an overall desire to mog as hard as possible, I guess?

I've been lucky that my lifting has gone uninterrupted this year since i have a setup at home, at least. I've been making the most of that and have seen some solid progress. As for being a misanthrope, I wouldn't really say I hate people but I certainly have never gotten along with most people I've known. I feel mostly indifferent to people, which isn't great.

Read existentialism (Sartre). It's the remedy for nihilism's overwhelming feeling of purposelessness, which is only a thing because Nietzsche was an edgelord.
Existentialism takes your locus of control and places it firmly within you. You master your world, not the other way around.

Since the for-itself (like man) lacks a predetermined essence, it is forced to create itself from nothingness. For Sartre, nothingness is the defining characteristic of the for-itself. A tree is a tree and lacks the ability to change or create its being. Man, on the other hand, makes himself by acting in the world. Instead of simply being, as the object-in-itself does, man, as an object-for-itself, must actuate his own being.

Shut up EOD.
OP, I am a bit of nihilist in general (not just lately). I think most people who discuss the topic would distinguish between existential nihilism and cosmic nihilism.
Before continuing though, there is a difference between being nihilist and feeling down or unmotivated. They are not really the same thing at all.
While I would subscribe to both camps (existential and cosmic) to a degree, I find my thought processes aligning more with existential nihilism. This one would deny any claim that there is meaning to our lives, but it doesnโt just stop there. It would go on to say that without any inherent meaning given to us by some external force, we are free to create our own meaning. It is on us to make our own happiness and there is a lot of power in that idea. Understanding that you are temporary, and that in the grand scheme of things your life experiences have zero impact on the surrounding environment (no matter positively or negatively influential you are), can be empowering.
On the surface, I am not afraid of failure. I am afraid of people knowing I failed. What would you try to do right now, if the shame and regret of failure were even more temporary than your own existence. If you understood the fear of rejection only lasted a small moment in your mind and no where else?
You are going to die one day. Compared to that, putting up 225 is nothing.

Sartre takes the premise "Man is his Thoughts" and argues that "Man is his Thoughts Acted Upon."
Take this nihilist premise borrowed from an above poster:

This statement is problematic in that it is caged by its own premise that nothing matters, that you will have zero impact on the surrounding environment. It tries to misrepresent that as an exciting world of boundless possibilities, but I raise an eyebrow lol. It's difficult to imagine how one could be happy with this conclusion that one can't have an impact. I mean, we fundamentally know that to be untrue! People revere the Caesars and remember the Nazis because they precisely had an impact. This one would deny any claim that there is meaning to our lives, but it doesnโt just stop there. Whereas existentialism would take the exact same statement and gain a profound insight from it.
Sartre would say: "Nothing matters! We have the freedom to create our own meaning. We know this just as well as we innately know ourselves."
But first, you must listen to yourself and act in accordance with what you know innately to be right. Your actions will inform your being, and a positive feedback loop will be established. This is seriously powerful stuff. I'd recommend checking out his works if you're interested.

TBH I was much more nihilistic (in the negative sense, not the "hedonistic" sense) and depressed BEFORE the pandemic SRS. Ever since the "lockdown" I've had a lot more time and freedom to actually pursue my hobbies/passions and do things I want to do. I don't have to see or be around people I don't like anymore out of obligation (like being invited to random weddings, boring parties and other vapid social activities).I feel more in control than ever before lol.
That being said, I recently graduated university and I've been looking for jobs, so it's kind of a mess, but I've found a lot to enjoy about life during all of this chaos (spending time with family especially). Plus, being able to work from home is great (basically supply chain financial operations)
Also, we have the finest 3 months of the year ahead of us IMO : October (Halloween), November (Thanksgiving) and December (Christmas). GOAT weather ahead, boyos. Go bike riding, pick up an instrument, read some books, play some videogames, etc. Life isn't as bad as you think. Sure, I'm "coping", but that's all we can do during these times, just keep our heads up and be positive and try to make sense of our lives.

Used to be a nihilistic, existentialist soyboy "looking for answers and meaning" until I hopped on OJ several years ago. Since then I've been all about the pump and coom -- with a 2-year break of doom and gloom when my ex-GF moved in with me and we got a dog together. During that time I became that which I abhor the most: a pleb NPC.
But I've been single and living alone now for three months and everything is back to normal, my freedom has been restored and my life has pure unadulterated selfish purpose once again. When I'm not fooking whores, I'm constantly devising new ways and exploring new fetishes to coom harder than before solo. And my sights are set on Thailand where I plan to spend a large portion of my pleb life savings on cooming as hard as possible.

Thanks for all of the responses, even the delusional religious ones!
I think it's not so much nihilism as it is misanthropy on my end. I despise human beings when we group, but I really like people individually. I work with people in an individual manner and that's fine. I think with everything going on, human tribalism is more blatant now than ever and I guess it just makes me sad in an overarching existential manner that we still haven't evolved past our tribalistic roots and most people can't think critically despite having an advanced cortex. You can't think about that too much or else you start going down that schit rabbit hole.
Best of luck to Looksmaximus on his impending Thailand trip. I think we all look forward to those posts.
