Is this a good email to ask for a reference ?

Good morning Mark,

Congrats on your promotion to CEO. I’m currently interviewing for xyz corporation. This may be a stretch given the circumstances around my exit at zzz corporation; however, I think Pete and I did do a great job in our territory growing the business. I’m hoping if Jeff does reach out you are able to outline our success.

Best,
Brad

Please note this dude is an absolute savage ... we got a long and I’d be invited with a small group to parties at his penthouse and stuff ... but he thinks I’m a full blown alcoholic who is unreliable and volatile

But this dude is legit an absolute shooter ... like the most aloha guy I’ve ever met

As a senior level officecel, that is a piss tier email.
"The manlet is a savage beast that knows no moral bound. After falling in disgrace to a manmore, a ravaged manlet would not hesitate to come from behind and land a sucker punch/ swing with a rock to the back of a manmore's head. Big question is:

Best regards; or,

Kind regards

@ OP your CEO thinks you're an alcoholic and volatile?

Dear Mark -

Congrats on your promotion to CEO! I’m currently interviewing for a few new positions at different organizations. As you know, I did a pretty good job helping to grow the business in my old territory. Would you mind if I used you as a reference for select opportunities? I'd really appreciate it - especially given the challenging environment that we're currently in.

yeah don't be negative. focus on the positive. and keep it open-ended so you can use him as a reference for the future - not just one time. and always ask permission first. otherwise it's presumptuous and rude. sometimes it's easier to see things when you're on the outside (me) vs. when you are on the inside (you) because you are too emotional and close to the situation.

it reads like you know you fuked up and are asking him to not mention it, which may actually be the case.
